More along the lines of Tactical Breach Wizards, Into the Breach, or XCOM: Chimera Squad. If you love those games, you'll enjoy this title.

There's a lot of love in this mid-budget turn-based strategy. + Satisfying combat mechanics + Interesting story with good cut-scenes and decent voice acting + Stylised and satisfying graphics. - Skill trees are a bit bland - Couple jank animations - Limited replay-ability Overall it's good value for money. 7/10.

Quite challenging combat situations to solve. Interesting stealth mechanics, also hero ultimates build-ups. It can be compared to XCOM: Chimera Squad, but with more mechanics in place. Regarding story, I find dialogs a bit funny, and story itself is not bad so far. Worth it.

Being a huge super hero/comic fan, I really wanted to play a game that sparked that old school love for superheroes. At the same time I was completely exhausted of Marvel and DC hasn't really put any game out recently that is worth investing in. Missing the old days of Freedom Force and City of Heroes, I decided to give the game a try. There is a lot of mediocre associated with the game, and if you know that going in, you can really find something to love. You get a blend of X-Com and Freedom force with the extreme camp of oldschool comics. The team-up abilities really make exploring the variety of characters fun but often times you feel like you need a specific combo of characters to beat the mission and get some of the optional objectives complete. Writing is a little rough and the story is pretty bland but the gameplay is enjoyable enough that it keeps you engaged. Overall I'd recommend if you can pick it up on a sale or you are really craving some superhero gameplay that isn't one of the big 2 publishers. If Spitfire continues the series I could see it being somethign really special if they added some polish to it

This is a very fun game and it gives into the breach vibes. Not sure why everyone else is so negative about this game.

Wow I love CRPG games and this one was great. I love the complexity of challenges in each mission and it was time consuming solving some of the All-In-One challenges. Kinda wish there were more cosmetic options for characters unlockable after completing certain challenges. I appreciated the adult dialogue and themes (murder and cursing) kind of like The Boys inspired. Each character is definitely unique and finding your own playstyle is great especially if you watch other peoples how to complete videos different hero match-ups. Highly recommend especially if you can find it @ a discount

Game mechanics are inconsistent, which is really annoying for a turn based strategy game. After completing the game, I was not able of predicting a turn correctly. Most of it is try and error with quicksaving. Some enemies hit you randomly, others focus you for no reason. Some attacks require line of sight, which is sometimes blocked by your teammates, other times by enemies teammates. Sometimes you can use your ultimates multiple times, sometimes not (even if it says so in the tool tip). The starting position of your team is random. So quicksave at the start, otherwise you have to restart the mission multiple times to get to the same starting position. Would recommend replaying XCOM2 WotC with mods instead of buying CAPES.

I really wanted to like this game. Pros: I like that the game is unabashedly woke and antifascist, particularly in the modern political climate. Cons: This game was absolutely DESTROYED by the decision to hang advancement on optional goals, which turn every level into a slog of trying to figure out the limited range of solutions to the puzzle. I gave up after hours of reloading the levels because I made one bad move that made it impossible to complete the goals. Sure, they're "optional" goals... except they're the main source of advancement, and there's always a bonus goal of "do EVERY optional goal in one mission" that makes it obvious that it's POSSIBLE to get all the goals if you just divine the solution to the puzzle. If the optional goals were "mastery" replays of the levels in the simulator that awarded cosmetics or other points for bragging, this game would become a thumbs up. But it's clear that if you don't do all the optional goals the game is only going to become harder because you don't have enough skill points. Such an easy fix, but the designers fell a little too in love with their perfect puzzle playthrough of each level. I would be very interested to play this game without the goals list heavily prescribing what I should do each and every time. Also... the protagonists tend to use "they/them" pronouns for EVERYONE in dialogues/cutscenes, even if the character being referenced isn't nonbinary. It makes several conversations confusing to follow. If you want to use neutral/plural pronouns, it's helpful to take extra care with sentence structure to make sure it's obvious which character you're referencing, and that you're not talking about a group.

Solid game with tactical mechanics. The only way to make it better would be to have endings influenced by in-game options and mission performances. A.G.

If you're a fan of XCOM or Marvel Midnight Suns, you'll enjoy this iteration on the formula. Capes has a heavier focus on melee combat and use of character specific special abilities than the games that likely inspired it, but leans into the theme well with heroes who feel distinct from one another, especially as you level them up. The combat sandbox is fun, with optional objectives that up the skill points awarded for completing a level. The story is serviceable, voice acting at a quality that stands out as decent amongst what would otherwise be an unremarkable tale. The bad guys are literally part of "The Company" and are cartoonishly evil, which does the job of ferrying you between combat scenarios. If campiness drives you crazy, this story will annoy you, but otherwise it won't get in the way of enjoying the combat puzzles.
