Pepper Grinder is a side-scroller with an emphasis of momentum based movement using a massive drill that pulls our heroine with it. Crashed on an island populated by evil narwhal-creatures and good mole-creatures you must traverse levels to get all of the treasure the island has to offer in a Wario-esque fashion as our player character "Pepper" is just here for the money. This is an enjoyable romp through some typical worlds; swamp, fire, water, ice. The game is not good with tutorializing as an early essential mechanic, a "drill-boost", is not described at all and has an auto and manual setting that can only be changed via the settings menu, this is one heavy strike against this game and I hope they change it in the future. Overall Rating: O.K.

Really enjoyed the regular levels but found the bosses quite hit or miss. The difficulty spikes were quite high but that might just be me. A sequel that had even more fun drill gimmicks and worlds would be rad. Pretty neat overall.

good: a hard but fun platformer (there is a good approach to difficulty - you can slow down the game speed). presentation, style and characters (some silly and some awesome pixel art). fun levels (even the mech and gun ones), challenging bosses. gems! sad: short, but also doesn't over stay its welcome. bad: can be hard on normal speed.

A short platformer that can be done within about 6 hours, more or less. But can take twice as long if you're going for 100% Achievements. Every stage introduce something new and different, a new gimmick, mechanic or threat. There are 4 worlds and about 20 stages (bosses and hidden stages included). The game is hard and there are Checkpoints in Casual Mode, but not in Time Attack mode. The Time Attack mode (basically speedrun), makes me feel like I'm playing Celeste where a single setback means you'll likely won't get Gold Medal and have to restart. Time Attack give exclusive collectibles and are required for 100% achievements. The Skull Coins collectibles can be easily missed if you're not actively looking and exploring. The bosses are relatively hard for a simple game about drilling. I don't think there is a story except the character you play as is a treasure hunter. Good pixel art and the drilling can be difficult to control and require some precision in some stages. Over all, I give it a 7.5/10 for personal enjoyment.

The game strongly suggests to use a controller and it's not good. I absolutely detest how the joystick controls and the kbm controls are wild. Got through the first area, beat the first boss after a couple tries and just uninstalled after the lava mountain area. Bummed because the art is amazingly cute and this seemed like a fun time.

extremely fun and surprisingly difficult at times, though I wish it made more use of the zip-lines as level 3-A is the best in the game by far the monsters were a little frustrating to deal with at times and felt a bit unnecessary, I think this game would've been even greater if they designed it a little more closely to Celeste in that it's purely platforming and light puzzle solving without any enemies to deal with (especially with the strange hitboxes) since the drilling controls so well also the monsters sound like Ricky Berwick and the world 2 boss theme sounds like the BFG singing about frobscottle, btw the world 1 boss isn't that hard guys yall just suck

This game frustrated me. When this game allows me to drill during the level(which doesn't happen often after the first chapter) it feels somewhat good. But when this game decides to challenge you in somewhat different mechanic it starts to get frustrating. Combat? It sucks from start of the game till the title screen. Janky hitboxes + constant "why was I damaged at this particular moment" turns combat segments in repetition of one particular meme from GTA:SA. Additionally devs love to throw a new mechanic every 2-3 levels, which don't end up being used in any other chapters(rockets from chapter 3(which end being used in 1! level), mechs from chapter 4, goo, ice crystals, magma, water surfing mechanic(very janky)). The only mechanic which feels consistent after being added is the grapling hook. By the way, the drilling mechanic remains the same during the whole game and doesn't get expanded on. Collectibles in this game are more or less useless. All of them end up being either skull coins, which at least allow you to open a bonus level in each chapter or costumes for main heroine, or stickers, which you get by speedrunning the levels in time trial mode or by getting them from gachapon in shop and can only be used by you to create some sort of scenes in additional menu. In the end this game ended up being a somewhat dissapointing experience. When this game gives you levels with platforming segments mixed with drilling, it shines brightest and feels genuinely fun to play. But when devs try to experiment and add something which doesn't mix well with platforming, the game cames to a scratching halt and turns into a show of not well tested desisions and additions, which leaves a player with a soured experince. Buy only with at least a 50% discount.

Cute little game that I first saw in a video from videogamedunkey a few years back, wondering when it would finally come out. Then a few years later I played it at Gamescom in 2023 and wishlisted it. Now that I finally played it, I would recommend it to you, but it does have a few problems, depending on your expectations. The game is short: the first playthrough, without going for 100%, can be finished in about 3 hours. The individual levels each have their own quality and unique mechanics, almost no mechanic is used twice. This leads to levels that feel fresh and non-redundant, but the overall quantity of levels is on the small side. Moreover, there are some difficulty spikes , especially with the bosses, which can get frustrating. After I finished my first playthrough, I did a speedrun of every level to get all the achievements, and this turned out to be a surprisingly fun part of the experience, because the flow of some levels is just that good. A Pepper Grinder 2 with more levels & more mechanics that interplay with one another would be great.
Overall, I’d recommend Pepper Grinder on sale (I got it for 7€), if you’re fine with a short game that has its little quirks.
pretty fun short little game. It ends too quickly, and the bosses were pretty difficult

The game has a good idea and was fun at first, but once I got to the first boss I spent about an hour and a half trying to beat it. Afterward every single boss was just hard and tedious to beat. Although the levels are great the bosses are a pain in the ass. In addition this game is very short so I recommend you get it when its on sale.
