i got all of the endings after ~an hour of playing and id say its worth 2 dollars. i ended up drawing a map in order to get around more easily, and overall had a pretty fun time. one thing that annoyed me a bit is that one of the endings seems just better than the other in every way, despite the two only being seperated by a binary choice which you dont know the meaning of when you make it. conclusion, gud game, buy it if u have 2 spare dollars.

Playing the game (v1), the creator obviously had a theme and idea in mind, but the game definitely lends itself to the whims and thoughts of the player: if the representation makes sense, you can make Azrael about whatever you find it fits. And certainly there is a lot that the player could make it about. A quick run was enough to get me interested enough for another go, where i found
the other endings
. Very intriguing ideas and a unique playstyle.

It's pretty easy to get lost in the black and white area as several times I have taken the same route over and over expecting a different result (Vaas Far Cry reference), although apparently it was designed to be that way, with the shifting pallet of black and white being disorienting and semi-frustrating. Story is very vague but I think it's meant to be that way as you have to piece it together with scattered bits of information. Despite that, it's a little hard to figure out what's going on. In summary: Spaffy waffy made game, slid into my dm's and said "buy game plz" and then I did because I am the goodest amazingest guy friend pal on the planet.

Azrael is a game that could take you less than 5 seconds to 3 hours depending on how many ending you want to see. My first run was a bit confusing since I had no idea what to do or what I was looking for until I eventually got the gist: Must press buttons, Collect book, and get some nice shoes (which I thought were wings). Purple key is love purple key is life and picking it up early makes collecting everything so much easier. Obviously there is more to the game but if you are this interested just pick it up and play it. This game is great to play all in one sitting or multiple short sessions could 100% easily. For $2 this was well worth the price and a great thought provoker. PS: The second maze made my brain hurt for an hour good luck!
Spoilers, kind of
It's kind of hard to rate this game because its not bad, it clearly has an interesting story and idea, they just are not fleshed out/shown much to you in a clear way. I'll probably put this into multiple parts in a non-generic steam review way that doesn't have cringe copypaste checkboxes. And yes i am writing this at like 3 am so im probably bound to say something that is a little dumb. The price: It's the main reason why i am conflicted on whether or not to recommend it because its only 2 dollars. If you have money already in your steam account you might as well just buy it and it wouldn't matter. Even if you buy it and don't like it or will never revisit it, it really wouldn't matter. This point is just overall positive; there is absolutely nothing wrong with the price and i think it fits fine with a short game focused more on a narrative. Story: I think that it is the main point of the game and its quite clear. It definitely makes you question whats going on... but i think its maybe too vague..? The game is intended to make you think, but i personally feel that it leaves too much in the air? The length really does not help as you only really get the opening, little splices of text, and the endings. I think the ending (guilty i'm pretty sure) where you walk around in a white, distorted maze and talk to the people was definitely a lot more interesting than the other one, and touching the dudes and making them become more transparent was a pretty cool progress measure compared to the goons just poofing. Anyways lol, i really dont think that the endings should be tied to a decision that seems so quick, simple, and small. Its like those games where you make a seemingly small decision and it completely shifts the route. Overall, i feel like the story being too mysterious is mainly because of the lack of interaction, actual gameplay, and dialogue. Still does have some interesting energy though, Environment: I feel like this is probably the most glaring issue along with the game's length. The environment is pretty empty. Its kind of just as simple as that, I think the endings had a nice dark feel to them, as in the environment you walk around in. The game would greatly benefit from being able to interact with the environment and characters etc. I think the main red maze being so simple doesnt really play off with the story possibly as intended (?) so it ends up just being devoid of any points of interests and makes you just want to complete your objectives. Game Length: Along with the environment, there are other things that dont get to leave you an impression because of the game's length. For example, you dont really get too much of a full soundtrack because of the game's length. There are also a lot of other things like characters, worldbuilding, etc that are restricted because of the game's length. I really just think it needs more time in the oven and you'd come out with a pretty good result. Conclusion: I have no idea if this game will get changed in the future, but i think it has a vague outline that could probably be filled in. I cut down on stuff like gameplay and such because its not really the game's focus and this review would end up being way too long lol. I really dont think the game is bad, i know i said seemingly a lot of negatives, i am just laying out the main criticisms for the future (idrk if this is helpful at all). I think this game is maybe more of one to learn from if you do anything in the future? I really dont know how long this took you to make and im not saying i could make anything myself, but i think some of these criticisms are valid maybe.. k lov u spafdad just giving you my 3 am thoughts. Steam does not allow a mixed review, and the game is cheap, so i dont think it deserves a negative review. Its not doing anything wrong, its just not doing enough to flesh it out if that makes sense?
