Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/KmBj5HtIH4A Hidden Shapes VR is pretty much exactly the same as HIdden Shapes non-VR. This is a 1:1 port of the game to VR. It's a very basic port. Point & click interactions. Very basic 3D, if you can call it that (it's really only the explosion animations that are in 3D). The puzzles themselves, while in a 3D space, are 2D tiles. It still looks cool in VR due to the depth surrounding the puzzle with the stars in the background. I would have enjoyed more varied backgrounds though. The explosion animations look nice, but again, they are pretty simple. If you have played Puzzling Places, this is like a simplified 2D version of that game. That makes the puzzles a lot easier to solve, since you're only rotating the tiles. There's even a cheat / hint system in case you get stuck. There are 20 puzzles / animal scenes. It took me about 90 minutes to get to the end. Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting mostly 90 fps, but with some dropped frames, which was surprising given the rather basic art style. This is seated gameplay, with all the action happening in front of you. I will admit, that I enjoyed the game. This game is perfect for the casual gamer, VR beginners, families with kids, or stoners. It's impossible to lose with the hint system available. The music is chill. It's a very relaxing experience. I think the real advantage in playing this in VR is not the 3D, which barely exists here, but the fact that in VR you're visually / audibly isolated so you can just enjoy the puzzles & the chill vibes. I do think the game is overpriced though for what you're getting though. This should be $5 USD tops, but probably closer to $3 USD for real value. Rate 6/10. I do recommend this for casual gamers looking for a very simple puzzle game with chill vibes & some cute animal 2D shapes, but I would say wait for a sale. If you're looking for a challenging puzzle game, look elsewhere.
If you enjoyed my review, please consider joining my Steam Curator Group.
