The protagonist is a very fun and cute character. I want more of her and Hime together.
How good the overall story will end up being remains to be seen as this is just the introduction, but it's good so far!

Just a heads up, this game would make a lot more sense if you played their other game, sacrament of the zodiac, first.

Would be pretty cool if one of the main couples weren't fucking sisters

Mystery, scifi, yuri with fantasy elements and lean towards comedy. Story is not told in a chronological order. MC falls into ridiculous/unexpected situations at every turn, either dumbfounded or outright squealing. The girls sometimes whisper into your ear. Currently lacking information to make much out of the story, might be better to wait for a sequel if you want to make some sense out of it.
Most importantly, MC is extremely cute and adorable.

Having loved the previous VN series by this Creative team I had High hopes of this to.
The MC is a cute girl among a few. The 2 friends she makes are as well though. At the moment it seems only one could be a romance for her in the coming episodes as you'll see in this episode.
I actually feel, and I felt it the 1st time I saw her, that Yata suits Hikari. Yata is so cute.
This story twists and turns and Poor Hikari is going round in circles wondering what date
she is in.
It will be interesting to see what comes next as The Main start was a couple of Hours long
for me.
The Ones named Epilogue were far shorter. Episode 2 is of of one of the main story characters and Episode 1 is of the Sisters,
I do recommend This.
ps; It does not contain the full on Love scenes of the previous VN Series,
Steam Deck Experience: Playable with Proton 8.0-5
You'll need to force the use of Proton 8.0-5 in the game properties. This will keep the game from crashing, but videos will show as colorful bars and be skipped. Also, you'll want to use mouse controls or the touch screen.
Keeping it short:
The plot goes at break-neck pace and the transitions are jarring, but the characters are fun to follow and the game has some serious polish with all the animations and a good soundtrack. There is a common error that pops up in the English version when text exceeds the space of the textbox, but it doesn't crash the game and you can continue after closing the error message.

I absolutely loved this game! so happy to see Kuro Irodoru Yomiji developing more games, and with even higher quality than their previous releases too! that isn't to say that previous games they've made are sloppily made, but that this one goes above and beyond when it comes to graphics, story comprehensibility and of course, voice acting. I will eagerly await the second part of the game! as well as the continuations to ne no kami since that game apparently shares the same universe with this one.
Watamari-A Match Made In Heaven Review
A short visual novel with good production but it is lacking as an individual piece of work which cannot stand on its own.
Art and Music
The music is pretty good. While there are generic school tracks there was some pretty good music especially during the magic duel and intense scenes. According to the steam page there is partial binaural audio. It was very cool and surprising to hear one of the girls whispering into my ear. I can't wait to hear that for later volumes!
The music during the magic duel gave me Umineko vibes(epic magic occult duel sounds) and speaking of art, there was little animations for some of the effects of the duel, while not fancy, was really neat and unexpected. Umineko
the one with the soulful sprites
could have used them. The small animation while not a whole lot did add to the fight scene.
The sprites take some time to get used to. They look like vtuber models; animated 2D sprites. I do not like vtuber models but I did get used to the sprites and I did like how expressive they could be. The one sprite I did not really like was Konoe. Looked like some eroge visual novel character
starless.
I just do not like the way she was dressed or colored. I do wish there were more CGs, despite its short length, I could still see some scenes which would have benefitted from a CG.
Story
The main story of volume one of Watamari, I am not a fan of. Student council presidents elections are lame stories and this did nothing to change how boring student council elections can be. The only semi interesting parts were the sci-fi elements and the magic duel. What I really liked about it was Watamari’s setting, world building and the mystery elements. I like how the setting is a mix between magic and sci-fi. Also many interesting details are talked about to elaborate on the setting but not fully explained. I appreciate how they were not info dumped but instead used a dictionary (a hint system) to give a brief explanation while still not fully explaining everything to give the reader mysteries to think about. I still have a lot of questions not explained by the game but not being explicitly told about them and letting me figure and think about it myself (also probably used to get me to buy future volumes) made me happy.
In regards to the yuri, there is not a lot of romance going on, just hints of future romance that might happen. The most developed couple for this volume, Homare and Konoe, is still bordering on the edge of subtext. There are two other couples (maybe) but not revealed until the end of the volume. All together the two couples (maybe three..she didn’t get a sprite) that are foreshadowed for the future volumes and one is frankly part of the cliffhanger/sequel bait. It is really disappointing that there is not a lot of romantic development but I hope this is just a setup for the future.
Conclusion
There are a lot of promising elements in terms of the yuri, in the world building, and the story that might be delivered upon in volume two but these elements are contingent on the other volumes expanding on and fleshing out what was set out by volume one. As by itself I cannot recommend. By itself this visual novel would only have its production value and limited story and with its length it cannot justify the $18.99 price tag just to see mysteries and ideas that might or might not be used in the future. Other visual novels that were part of a series, still did a good job being stand alone stories but Watamari’s volume one value is depending on the future pending volumes. As these volumes are not out yet I would advise readers to wait to buy. Maybe in the future this game would be recommended but only because of future volumes. I plan on buying the future volumes to see if they can deliver which hopefully they can.

Story isn't too long or too short. It's pretty cute and has some nonsense to it, which isn't really funny most of the time (as it supposed to be). Store page tells you that it's yuri title, but to be more accurate it's shoujo-ai, there's no 18+ patch.

You get to see not only Hikari's perspective, but other characters as well.
All main characters have Japanese voice-acting.
You know how some novels just endlessly loop same music track over and over, till you lose it and turn sound off? Watamari actually has more than one track and music was easily one of my favourite things in it.
Easy to get 100% achievements + trading cards.
It did bother me a little bit that splash art for characters is done by different people. There's difference between how Hikari drawn compared to Konoe or Homare. Ikaruga also doesn't have full animated splash, for her mostly used portraits and only times you'll ever see her splash is on screen when perspective changes from other character to her (and this one isn't animated).
Konoe's animation with hand was a little bit annoying, mostly because of how many times it gets played.
Text in bubbles isn't centred.
Duel scene is missing CGs to it. Everything just being told in text while you get some animation on side of character splashes, which doesn't feel right.
English translation is alright (after Tricolour Lovestory having google translation in it instead of proper one is one of the horrors that haunt me in nightmares), only thing that I would note about text is that when you get highlighted term in the text, it sometimes missing space between it and next word.
Would give it neutral recommendation if Steam had such option.
