Have a great first season then have you young promising driver die in your 2nd race of the season. 10/10 would recommend again :)

Most of the decisions you make in this game are pointless. You can try to minmax your every decision, compute the probabilites, tweak every option, press every button, but if the script says that the 2 italian cars take spots 1 and 2, they are going to take them. And if you try to challenge it, the car in the 2nd spot will make a lap records while running on worn our hard tyres behind a car on fresh softs from the same team. And the car running on softs can make twice as many pit stops, but pulls into the lead after each one anyway.
Some cynics would say that this is actualy realistic, but this is not the kind of realism I'm playing games for.

I like this game. It has a great look and feel. It's easy to pick up and get race in, and there is something to be said for how well the game creates a sense of apprehension for as simplistic as it is. I think there are some sentiments out there that there should be more data visible, and from time to time I do agree that if I only had this piece or that piece visible I could make a different decision, but it also seems to be against the minimalist spirit of the game.
I would say that the qualifying mechanics can feel a bit limiting. I've found it really challenging to time the pit exit correctly and the drivers are very vocal when they get stuck behind a slower car. It's possible I'm missing something and creating that problem for myself though. I saw another review that talked further about the lack of non-terminal race events, like spins, barrier contact, damage from overtaking, and other mechanical maladies, and I would probably agree that there could be some tweaking/addition to that element.
Overall though I think it's a really strong and unique game. If you have even just a passing knowledge or interest in motorsport it is worth giving it a shot.

very fun, i may have never played f1 maneger but i really enjoy this game. its more chill than a full on constant stressful real time maneger but it is still really fun. i would like a bit more control over the drivers though.
addicting game.
Any game that lets you make Al Pease a 10-time WDC is an essentially perfect game in my mind.
Joking aside, Golden Lap is a wonderful game for one reason I think: the ability to recreate alternative histories of vintage (or modern) F1 eras with modding. The game itself needs some work in terms of difficulty and strategy, but the reason I have so much fun with the game is because it allows for so much variety in terms of "what ifs" or just picking 2 historical F1 drivers and seeing where they go.
If you're buying this for a pure racing manager, it's simple of course but fun and I think it's worth the price, but it's a bit lacking in depth and hopefully along the line, updates will make the game a bit more challenging and rewarding. But, if you love creating alternate scenarios for motorsports, I think this is a no-brainer.
