A pretty fun classic-style top-down action game. Nothing massively memorable that'll stick with you, but plenty of fun to be had.

I've been looking to revisit some of my older games still lingering on my PC recently and I wondered why this one had been sitting there for over 10 years. The game has some impressive retro visuals that pay homage to the NES era of graphics. These are accompanied by a wide range stunning chip tunes that also do impress throughout. However, while finally attempting to complete RCR, I unfortunately quickly remembered just how tedious it was to play.
Most of your game time will be spent within the city over world as you navigate between each location. While this area very much resembles a cut-down GTA clone, it doesn't really do much with it and you quickly find out that this is just the housing for its many mini-games that are its actual missions. These parody countless pop-references and retro game clones trying to spin up nostalgia but they come and go so fast, its all feels so chaotic, much like most of its game play especially towards the end. Frustratingly, the mini-games that don't rely on the GTA style game play, have some questionable mechanics too... the Sweat Bomber quests as an example. Sure, you'll have some initial fun in both the city over world and mini games but once the shine wares off, you realise RCR doesn't really have much else to give. Your just left with a bad taste in your mouth wanting something a little more substantial.
