I’ve spent hundreds of hours behind the safety of my harpoon turrets and spiked blockades, but the Assault Mission Pack just shoved me out into the open and told me to be the one doing the raiding. It’s a complete 180-degree flip that turns Dungeon Defenders into a high-stakes demolition derby. In a standard match, you’re the wall. In Assault mode, you’re the battering ram. The goal is to charge into enemy territory and destroy their crystals before the timer runs out, all while dodging a defensive setup that would make a seasoned general sweat. I jumped into the first map thinking I could just tank the damage, only to be turned into a pincushion by a battery of automated defenses that were clearly designed by a developer with a grudge. The rhythm of the game shifts from "patient planning" to "frantic execution." You have to pick your hero based on mobility and burst damage—suddenly, the Huntress’s invisibility or the Squire’s circular slice aren't just defensive tools; they’re your ticket to surviving a suicide run. I spent one memorable round zig-zagging through a hallway filled with lightning auras, heart pounding, trying to land that final hit on the enemy core while my screen flashed red and the countdown beeped in my ears. It’s a brutal test of your hero’s gear and your own personal reflexes. There’s no hiding behind a tower here. If you miss a jump or mistime a heal, the mission is over. It’s lean, it’s aggressive, and it’s a fantastic palate cleanser for when you’re tired of the "build-and-wait" cycle of the main game. 8/10. It’s the closest Dungeon Defenders gets to an action-movie climax. I’m currently repairing my armor and questioning my life choices after a laser grid cut my run short, but I’m going back in for one more charge. Who knew being the invader was this exhausting?
