In its pre-alpha stage, this game radiates promising potential, notwithstanding the anticipated array of bugs inherent in early development. Remarkably, the project has been entirely self-funded by Specpixel Entertainment, underscoring the dedication and vision of its developers. While the current feature set may feel somewhat constrained until additional features are integrated, what is already in place is meticulously crafted with precision and excellence. Despite a modest map size, the design and execution leave a lasting impression of quality. My excitement for the future of this game knows no bounds, as I eagerly anticipate its continued evolution. I'm genuinely intrigued to witness the journey of New Citizen unfold in the years to come.

After spending over 100 hours playing New Citizen, here’s my review. As of the time of writing, the current version of the game is 0.0.2, according to the in-game main menu. What I can confidently say is that New Citizen has evolved in a very positive way. Most of the major issues, such as input delay on vehicles, limited map size, and lack of jobs, have been addressed. Now, the game offers a wide variety of jobs, and the map is significantly larger compared to the early days. The input delay has been fixed, but vehicle physics still feel a bit off. That said, the game is still a lot of fun to play. However, there’s still room for improvement to make it perfect. Areas like optimization, player interactions, and features like robberies could use further development.

New Citizen is an rough diamond which can become a great game in 1-2 years with constant updates and work from the developer. The developer is involved in updating the game, providing support to server owners and helping overall. The game is a great alpha and hopefully by beta time there will be full servers where you can enjoy normal life, caught criminals or be the criminal making mayhem. I'm looking forward for the drug manufacture update.

First of all: Before you buy, keep in mind this game is in an early pre-alpha state. You'll run into bugs, performance issues, maybe disconnections etc. ! If you expect an full or near complete game, I would highly recommend to put it on your wishlist, join the discord and wait for further development. Honestly, in the past, many sandbox rpg games failed a lot in the past and I know that people are aware of it today and sure, it can be risky to get into a early access pre-alpha game like this, but this one has a lot of potential. Even with a negative rating, the developer keeps working on this game and if you join the discord, you'll see a lot of interesting sneak peeks and it shows, that the developer really cares. The game itself has some issues, but I expected it for an pre-alpha stage. What I really love about this game, there are already some jobs implemented including police... so it offers more than all other sandbox RPGs in the past. Also the developer offers the dedicated server files, so you're able to host your own server, if you prefer to make your own community :) ! Conclusion: I am happy to see an developer not giving up right now and keeps working on it. Don't buy this as a game, more as an investment into the future, willing to help the developer fleshing out this game. If they keep up working on it, it can be a good standalone rpg game we all ever wanted. But please, again... don't buy it and expect something like GTA RP or Arma Life right away. It's a small development team and updates will take their time. If you're not sure, wishlist it, visit the official discord and keep an eye out for the development progress.

Everything in the game is either broken or janky, stuff that should sync doesn't, and I fell out the map, 3/10.

Alpha. But it should be playable at least. The frame rate is crap, even at the lowest settings. Don't publish a game, when it's unplayable. It might run alright, if you have a high-end pc. My pc is a few years old, still i can run pretty much every newly released game smoothly, even if i have to lower a few options, like shadows. Not with this one. It's a slideshow.

Well, this easily one of the most egregious Early Access games I have seen in a while. $35 for what is, in the game's own words, "A Playable Tech Demo". There is nothing to do. The systems don't work or don't even exist. The world is empty, lifeless, pointless and just a bunch of nothing. Even the EA pitch is wild because the intended experience includes up to 32 players per server being NPCs for other players. The idea that the modding community should come in and help make this game is crazy. No one is going to buy this, and then feel invested enough to want to then spend their free time modding it. Nothing on the store page leads me to believe that the game will ever be anything other than an empty asset map. Take the game off Steam. Actually turn it into something people might want to play. Then polish it a BUNCH. Then maybe come back to Early Access. https://youtu.be/f02Xhyw1S2Y

The developer of this game (Tanner) is a liar and a thief. In 2020 I hired him to start contract work on my game. He assured me within a few days he would have something to show. Months later after many delays and excuses he ended up ghosting me and running off with my money. Granted it was only $150 but he still took my money and delivered nothing. Do not trust this developer or anyone who associates with them, you will be taken advantage of. You are a bad person Tanner and I will never let you forget it as long as you still owe me my money. Also the game is equivalent to drinking dog water out of a dumpster fire.
