overall rating: 10/10 i wanted to post a positive review sooner, but told myself to wait until i 100% completed the game with all achievements. this is outright the best indie 3d platformer i've played. it perfectly emulates older 3d platformers like banjo kazooie/tooie, spyro, and even games like battle for bikini bottom. i grew up playing 3d platformers, and i've never seen an indie 3d platformer match the vibe so perfectly. firstly the graphics. i think they may look "bad" or "unimpressive" to some, but they're really charming to me. they make it feel more like a ps2/ps3 game because they're not overly perfect and detailed. the game is bright and nice to look at while keeping a nostalgia factor. also this game is proof that passionate game devs can make an incredible game even with premade assets (since, for some reason, premade assets are looked down upon. in asset flips i hate them, but this game is NOT that). the music is amazing. so catchy and the music fits the theme of each area. it's also dynamic, like going underwater changes the music. it's really high quality and i never got tired of the songs at all, unlike some games. i'm not sure who the composer(s) is/are but it's really well done. performance was mostly fine, the camera would glitch out when i shift+tabbed or alt+tabbed out and i'd have to reboot the game to fix it. it only crashed once in my 14 hours of play, but it seemingly autosaves your progress so nothing really gets lost. i've seen games with bigger budgets and teams have way more bugs so i'm impressed this game performed pretty well for an indie game with a singular dev and small playtesting team. onto the most important thing: the gameplay is fun and genuinely feels like an older platformer. a bit janky sometimes, like the climbing. kit's jump feels clumsy initially but once you learn it, it feels really good to jump around and you genuinely feel like you're improving. the dash is quick enough to get around as well (though i wish if i held it down kit would continously dash, though i get why this isn't a thing). i notice a lot of newer 3d platformers have more dynamic and slippery movement (the character 'speeds up' as you run forward or turns weird) and this doesn't have that, similar to older 3d platformers, which i love. the levels get naturally harder and so do the puzzles in them. it's not an "easy" platformer but also not overly difficult. enchanted metalworks has some pretty tough platforming compared to the rest of the game for example, but you don't get there until you're pretty far in. the bosses range from easy to "wtf seriously?" (until you finally nail it). it really reminded me of, for example, ice age 2 for the ps2/gc but more actual collectibles and you're able to backtrack with new abilities as you unlock them. the puzzles can be tough for some of the optional stuff, but doable, and the dev made a guide for some like the bamboo puzzles. there were times i got a bit frustrated like in the boss rush, but that would never make me take points away from such a wonderful game otherwise. dialogue/characters are witty and cute. i love the hats on the birds/foxes, it's goofy in a really charming way. the characters say some silly, clever remarks, as do the bosses. best character is queen nelli... kit plays the silent protagonist, but i actually really prefer silent protags in these kinds of games (something i also grew up with, most platformers having a silent protag). you can tell the dev had fun writing the dialogue, and while the story is pretty simple (go on a journey to save sister from evil dragon, meet allies along the way) i don't think 3d platformers need crazy deep stories. most don't, honestly. this game makes me so happy and i can genuinely tell the dev put so much love and passion into it. they are also super helpful in their discord, even with this game having released a while back! this is a true emulation of older, classic 3d platformers. it stays traditional, and to me, that's an awesome thing. many 3d platformers have more bells and whistles compared to older ones as technology has evolved, or they have incredibly pretty graphics. and that's awesome too, but it's a breath of fresh air to see a game that comes SO CLOSE to the old feel that games had in all regards. however, if you are NOT someone who grew up with platformers, or if you only play games with the latest and greatest graphics or mechanics, you may find this a bit unimpressive. it's niche, but if you're willing to give it a try, it's a wonderful little game full of love. i would love to see the developer make a sequel or another game!\ thank you lone fox games for reviving my childhood....

What a shame, I so wanted a game with a non-anthropomorphic fox that wasn't just about a slow exploration like all the others, and the first hours were a blast, but the more you go forward in the game the less the platforming and obstacle mechanics resulted imprecise, and since a lot of sections of this game instead want a lot of precision, I'm not putting up with the game own lack of precision anymore. A shame, because if not for this, it would have been a complete blast
