This is a selection of bonus battles, loosely, inspired by real life historical battles during the Boshin War. I liked it. The difficulty was a little stupidly high. Par for the course for the Total War historical battles of this era. As for the people, such as CoPlus, ryangurn49, PandaForsman, and many others, having trouble getting this to work, first... Check that the DLC is there by looking at your game library list, right clicking on "Total War: SHOGUN 2", and click on "Properties...". Then click on "DLC" on the left. You should see a list of available DLCs. If you have bought all the DLC, the "Dragon War Battle Pack" should be the fourth one down the list; and, it should have a blue check mark in the box down the "Install" column. If it does not you still need to install that. But, you also need to own, and have installed The Fall of the Samurai. Why? This [the Dragon Pack] was launched as a DLC for a DLC [the Fall of the Samurai]. Don't see Fall of the Samurai in the list of the DLC for Shogun 2, on its store page? That's because Sega decided to start selling it as a stand-alone expansion, and jack up its price by a lot. Mind you, I don't know for sure how it is for you, because I bought it while it was still a DLC. But, I imagine the game library is still treating it as a DLC, maybe with a shell version of Shogun 2 to run FotS from, if you bought the latter, but not the former. Secondly, in the opening, main menu, for the running game Total War: Shogun 2, hover your mouse cursor over "Single Player", and click on, the third from the bottom, "Historical Battles". Then there will be three tabs on the top. Click on the middle, "Fall of the Samurai" tab. There's what you get for the Dragon War Battle Pack. You may note that a number of the battles are locked until you win the previous battles. Did I mention these battles are really hard?

the dlc gives you new historical battles for shogun 2 total war. They are nice scenarios(which are also hard). If you like historical battles, especially the harder ones, then this will be a fine addition to your collection. However beware, not all battles are unlocked instantly, you have to unlock them as you win the previous historical battles. Also they arent that typical historical scenarios where is just one field and you just have to kill the oponent, it is more based on a.. "scenario".

The DLC for Total War: SHOGUN 2 offers various additions to the game. From the Dragon War Battle Pack, which provides a series of connected battles with unique objectives and mechanics, to the Rise of the Samurai Campaign and other clan packs, offering new factions, units, and abilities.

I think i got this for free. I'm not sure why it has a pricetag then, or why it's called "Fall of the Samurai" in-game but "Dragon War Battle Pack" on Steam. The first battle involves defending 4 passes from countless regiments (to stop a letter from being delivered), and if any of them reach one of the passes then you lose, but you don't have the advantage of being able to check your forces and set up. So you'd split your forces and just hope that the enemy doesn't focus on one of the points. But not only do they focus on certain points, they can turn invisible. The other battles were locked. A video to introduce the first battle helps bring some history to life, but it wasn't particularly good compared to more recent history videos that are far better at conveying historical information through visuals. As downloadable content goes I wouldn't even bother downloading it. I certainly wouldn't recommend paying for it, absolutely not if they want to charge £4.49 when it's nearly a decade old. They probably should have focused their efforts on finishing the animations of the base game.

This DLC is basically just all of the Fall of the Samurai historical battles. There is not really any reason to get this if you already have Fall of the Samurai as this DLCs battles come with that expansion. Fall of the Samurai is one of the best Total War games so there is also not really any reason to not have that game. However, if for whatever reason you want just the historical battles because you have no time for campaigns or something then fair enough. These are the best historical battles in all of TW and worth playing. All of the Dragon War historical battles flow together to create a single story about Saigo Takamori and the Boshin War. Most of the battle cutscenes are pretty long and many even have their own animations. The battles themselves all have unique objectives, goals, mechanics, and are extremely difficult on harder difficulties. Some of the battles are also designed to be very long, upwards of an hour and a half in some cases. There is not really any reason to get this DLC, but it’s a good value if you find a reason.

The battles are nice and I like the smaller history lesson you get with it. I’m giving this a thumbs up but I am pissed about one thing. In campaign and whatever it’s not more than right that you can’t save during a battle. However, here in the historical battles you can play for like 40 min. Doing great. Choosing the wrong thing to do and loose just to be forced to play the 40 min exactly the same because that was the way to do it. You just messed up at the end. This is frustrating and boring. I get that it makes you more on the edge than if you could save whenever but I don’t think it’s worth it on these historical battles where you more or less need to find the one good way to do it. I see them as puzzles where you have to redo everything if you just put one piece wrong.
