Zaxterion: Space Frenzy! Reviews

NOTE: If ZaxtorGames had a buy 9 get your 10th free punch card like some gas stations do for coffee and fountain drinks, this one would have been free. Unfortunately, ZaxtorGames is located in the US so I was forced to pull myself up by my metaphorical bootstraps and hustle up $8. I do watch his YouTube content and have chatted with him. If the game sucked, my only significant bias I'm aware of is that I would be more apt to provide ZaxtorGames an opportunity to fix a subpar game before leaving a negative review than some random asset flipper on Steam. Zaxterian - Space Frezy is the 10th game of ZaxtorGames I've purchased and the 9th I've played. Oddly enough, I've never played Rock'n'Roll. It's one of the next in the queue. All ten games are definitely the work of ZaxtorGames, mostly through his own coding and asset creation or contracting out for unique music, etc. There's the occasional Creative Commons music piece in his games catalog but nothing I could find that's stolen, misappropriated, or otherwise used unethically. If I'm in between recommend and not recommending, I'll typically recommend a unique work and not recommend one that consists of non-unique work. Zaxterioin - Space Frenzy is a 2D rougelike space shooter. There's permadeth but you carry your currency with you. It's not without progression. There's a working leaderboard too, even if I'm quite terrible at getting anything other than "at least it's not last place" on it. The firing distance, strength of shots, and other weapons / powerups-related variables seem to be appropriately balanced, but it's possible that later in the game it's not (didn't obtain all of the powerups / weapons / etc). The controls are responsive and precise regardless of whether keyboard and mouse or gamepad is used. The music, sound effects, and graphical assets are surprisingly not super amateurish this time around. I always found the amateurish art of games like Poggers to be a cute selling point for the game, but this game definitely is one of the more professional-looking and sounding of the bunch. The $8.99 price tag is likely to be an issue for someone randomly perusing Steam. Let's review some of the competition: - Nova Drift can be obtained for a similar price on sale but is nearly double the price at full price. - Asteroids.. But Roguelite has a similar level of artistic design quality but is an inferior game. It's only $1.99. - Asteroids Millenium is much more traditional Asteroids than a roguelite. It's $7.99. - Aliens & Asteroids is a traditional Asteroids-like experience for only $1.99 and is polished. - Bit Blaster XL & Super Bit Blaster XL both share the Asteroids aspects but not the roguelite elements. Both are under $4. - Asteroids Recharged is $9.99. Better presentation, worse gameplay/controls, and yet another that's missing the rougelite elements. VERDICT: This might be my favorite ZaxtorGames title thus far. It's definitely up there with Vektor Z and while lacking the extra gamemodes, this game's single mode is superior to any of the modes in Vektor Z. It's still sub-$10 and for the amount of time and effort put into this title, I have no issue paying $8.99 for it. The controls are responsive and precise, the gameplay is fun, and the various systems in game are balanced appropriately. For someone with no ties to the developer's other games or content, it might be a title to wait for a 25% off or similar sale. That's moreso due to the low cost of Asteroids-based titles on Steam than any issue with the quality of this game. SCORE: B - Recommend

I am not one to write reviews. This game is is definitely one that needs to be shared with others ! It's not your average 2d game that you can compare to others . May look like your average Asteroids game , but by far not . There is a lot to this game that will have you coming back for more . Plenty of achievements , enemies, and power ups. It is challenging , Keeps you saying just one more game to try to beat your own score . Love the different ship options to go with your individual game play style. The Developer does a great job of updating the game play by adding new enemies and content to keep you playing for hours on end . would give this game a 10/10

I bought this game because I saw a twitcher playing it for a about 6 hours last week and he seemed super into it and it looked pretty fun. This game is certainly addicting and it makes you want to play again and again not just to try and move up in the high scores that it shows you every time you game ends but to just top your own best score. I appreciated the 1,000 Zaxterion coins given to me as a new player that gave me the luxury to buy a couple of new ships. I must say that The Fusion is like asking for a fiery death because it moves so fast even at the base speed. It was a huge jump up from the ship you start off with but as I played it more, I started getting control of it and it's so much fun. I don't have enough Zaxteron to buy the next ship I want but I'm close and that's where the game hooks you! It makes you want to buy new ships as each one has it's own special ability and seems to change everything up a lot. This game is very unique in that you are always moving and can never stop like Asteroids and so many other space games like it. You aren't limited in movement and can freely move anywhere on the screen and you can wrap around the side and top and bottom edges too. Crashing into rocks and enemies doesn't kill you either but instead takes away some life, the faster you are going the more damage it seems to do. I really like the ships that visit you and sell you powerup buffs that last around 30 seconds but turn the odds in your favor for the brief time they last. The big ship that visits you on the bottom side of the screen sells more permanent buffs while the top ship that visits sells health restoration and the short lasting but really powerful buffs like rapid fire and a orbiting weapon that is a ton of fun! The graphics are retro but seem to be hand drawn sprites and they all seem to work well together as a whole. The music is perfect for this type of game and seems to keep your adrenaline going. The controls are very responsive, and I like that a controller is made available for use in this game too. I'm quite surprised that this game is under $5 as I noticed someone else mentioned in their review. There's not many games this much fun and this addicting at this price and I noticed after buying it that there is a demo available as well. Maybe play the demo if you are on the line of buying it or not. I've never played a game quite like this and I've played a lot of space blasters in my life. This one stands out on its own and is one I'll be coming back to quite often I think. I look forward to seeing where it goes with some more updates the developer has teased recently, 9.5 out of 10 stars. You can't go wrong for the very low price on this one.

Zaxterion - Space Frenzy is hands down the worst game I have ever played on Steam. As a huge fan of the classic game Asteroids, I was extremely disappointed with this supposed "remake" by ZaxtorGameS. The graphics are outdated and pixelated, the controls are clunky and unresponsive, and the gameplay is downright boring. Furthermore, the developer, ZaxtorGameS, clearly has no understanding of the original game or how to create a quality remake. The entire experience feels rushed and unpolished, with numerous glitches and bugs throughout. I highly recommend avoiding this game at all costs. Save your money and your time, and stick with the original Asteroids instead. Zaxterion - Space Frenzy is a waste of both.
