I guess I recommend. It's fun, and I like the graphics. There's a wide range of difficulty settings which is greatly appreciated. But a negative I have to mention is that there is some pretty noticeable screen-tearing for me with no relevant display options to try to address it. I'm not sure if I'm the only one seeing this but it looks bad

Really a mixed bag because I had the original version that was on here (no longer available) but couldn't play it anymore because my year-old gaming laptop was too new/advanced to properly play it. The game itself is fine but I'm just more disappointed about having to buy it (and Raiden 4) again, the only other major change is a new soundtrack with I'm not a fan of and also adding achievements. If you didn't have the "old" Raiden 3, get this one, ideally when it's on sale. If you do but have a PC that's too new/advanced to play the old one, consider biting the bullet and buying it again. Again, wait for a good sale though

The game is really fun, but the screen tearing (I have a 60 Hz monitor) sucks a big dick. There is no V-sync option in-game and my free-sync monitor doesn't help any. If you aren't uppity like me and can forgive the screen tearing, pick this up. Like I said, it's fun.

I am a big fan of the arcade Raiden games and find they have a timeless quality to them which is a big part of their appeal. Classic arcade action, tight controls and high score tables etc. First and most importantly the game plays solidly. No input lag or frame rate problems. No sound glitches hence why I recommend this game. Their are a couple of minor non game play issues which I have listed below On loading this game it starts in window mode, then switches to full screen if you manage to find how to do it in the menu.(Keep scrolling left adjusting resolution and it will switch from window to full screen automatically). World ranking leader boards do not work. This is a feature in the game that doesn't work. For a game charging a premium price it should not have basic issues like this. The sound/music sounds like it has reduced dynamic range (compressed). It's ok, but if you have the sound up it can be a little harsh. Again, this is a premium price game - these kind of things should not be present. The sound is ok though. Overall, the game is good. It is a decent Raiden game on Steam and I do recommend it..

Could've been a better PC port, but at least this version has competent controller support. The remixed music is outright better/replaced versions of the OST and are way better options than the middling OST of the original.

I love Raiden III, but don't think you should go for the Steam version. My game was lagging way too much to be considered playable. It's a shame too, because this is the only way to play Raiden III on steam if you haven't already paid for the now de-listed version (which runs better and was cheaper, I'll add).

I double dipped on this game as its so good. For the past several months i have been playing Raiden III on PS4 and it has been my most played shooter this year. In general i feel the game gets looked over and not widely spoken about. The pc version runs very smooth at 60fps, no stutters or jank like Sol Cresta. The gameplay is mainly old school in nature with enemies firing directly at you, some mid bosses/bosses have more bullet hell patterns to negotiate. This mix of styles gives the game a good flow, level design is varied and interesting. Being a game from the PS2 era, the graphics are a product of the time, they are not the most detailed or high resolution but they suit the game well and look stylish. The backgrounds appear less detailed and lower resolution than the foreground elements and ships which do look like they have been reworked. It does create an odd mixture but i don't find it distracting. Those of you playing on a 4k 40+ inch display will be disappointed at the quality but that will be the same for most remasters of old shmup games. I play on a 1080p 24" monitor and it looks fine. Tate mode is in the display options and runs fullscreen. From a latency point of the view the game is snappy and crisp, its purely subjective as i have no latency measuring gear but from my decades of playing shooters it feels great to play. The ship speed is quite slow and requires you to think ahead and pre-empt where the bullets will be, playing reactionary is difficult as the bullet speed get real fast in later levels, learning the spawn points of enemies, bullet patterns and being one step ahead of the enemy fire is a gameplay loop i find very addictive. The music is sensational in this game, the original soundtrack is great but the remixed versions are on a whole other level. The remixed tracks are locked in the game and can unlocked through beating levels and getting high scores, it gives a decent amount of replayability but most things can be got quickly enough to not feel like an unnaproachable grind. You can create your own playlist per level, this is a great addition as matching your favourite tracks to the levels elevates each stage and makes me want to play the levels more and more. If you want to listen to the music outside of the game you have access the wav files in the games bgm folder. Overall the package is complete with stage select, score attack, 1/2 player and dual player modes which add a lot of value. Its one of my favourite shooters and is a joy to play. The biggest negative i have is the game does not run on Steamdeck.

Writing this review with the hope this info reaches the devs more easily so they can fix the game-breaking issue that is currently forcing me to give this a negative review. Will change this to a positive review once this is fixed. Raiden III is an arcade Shoot 'Em Up that first came out in 2005, with various ports over the years. This latest re-release is basically an upgraded version of the last PC port on Steam, but now supporting: - Higher resolutions up to 4K. - A huge assortment of music arranges for you to pick-and-choose from. - A lot of new wallpapers. The input lag on the Steam version is pretty low as well, so I want to say this is the definitive version of the game to play. However, there is currently a bug with an achievement that is so broken that it prevents the game from being played in any favorable manner, and it's downright unplayable at anything slightly higher level. The "Quick Shooting Master" achievement is an achievement about getting the x2.0 flash shot a 1000 times, basically destroying enemies as quickly as possible to get the maximum amount of score from them. The issue here is that every time you get a x2.0, the game freezes for about half a second. You can imagine this being a problem when you constantly aim to get x2.0's. It's maybe caused by the game registering the x2.0 for the achievement many multiple times over than it's supposed to, resulting in the freeze. This problem does not happen in Dual Mode, since the achievement cannot be gained in that mode. You can see a demonstration of the issue here: https://streamable.com/oj0f2t This being the only issue that prevents this from being called the definitive version makes this especially frustrating. It seems like this would be a quick, easy fix, but it's been over a month since this problem was first reported and nothing has been fixed as of yet. With the previous release of Raiden III being de-listed from Steam to make room for this release, it's especially egregious that this bug persists, as there is now no way to play this game on Steam in any favorable manner.
