A strong entry in the recent series of Mechwarrior games made by Piranha Games. Enjoyable story, better tactical options. On my second playthrough now that they have added NG+

The only thing about this game I like is the Vulture. I love that mech. Love playing it and love a full star of vultures running around kicking hell. But I hate the cut scenes with the guy in charge. i hate him. He ruined the game for me. And the massed light and medium mechs. The bad ai. Love the sensors to hunt down goodies. Might have had a problem saving the game during missions as when I failed at one particular mission I just gave up. Didn't want to do it again. Uninstalled. Even with DLC, just lost interest. Really wanted to like it, but too linear, too much do it this way or not at all. Well, I chose not at all.

I am blown away with this game. First introduced to Battletech Universe with Mech Assualt on XBOX way back when and though it was pretty cool. Then Years Later with Battletech PC Game made by Hairbrained Schemes was also impressed and enjoyed. Then I've Played MW5: Mercs and was initially impressed with game play but felt it lacked (of Course) Story. Well that has Changed with Clans. Story telling was a breath of fresh air and very immersive with characters along with Ghost Bear DLC. I started reading the Battletech books because of this Clans with shed light on what was going on (Start with Battletech Jade Phoenix Trilogy to shed light on the Way of the Clans). Being a kid gamer who has grown up in the 90's the music is very nostalgic and well composed. Highly recommend if someone wants a game series steeped in lore and numerous ways to get into as well (there is also a Table Top Game thats Called Battletech where all of the started)

Wish I could give this a "neutral" review. Basically the game is a bit of a mess, but it's still a fun mechwarrior game. So if you're a fan of the genre, go buy it, otherwise I wouldn't bother. The Good: - Mechs! - Cutscenes are pretty good - There is a campaign with a story that makes sense - Gameplay is fun. It's basically the same as mechwarrior online or mechwarrior mercenaries, so if you play(ed) those, you know what's coming. The Bad - Unoptimized mess. CPU throttling, low FPS, stuttering etc. I'm running a 3080 and sometimes i'm hitting 20fps, it's crazy. - The menu is mindbogglingly bad. Menus in top left corner have the okay button in the bottom right, on PC. The pathing in the menu is also not intuitive, it's just bad. - Voice acting is terrible, almost all character anoy the hell out of me because of it - Faces in the cutscenes are really odd, they shake a lot so all characters look either terrified or fuming mad. This makes the voice acting even worse, as it doesn't fit the visuals. - The collecting aspect of mercenaries is gone, there's basically unlimited money/repairs and getting a lance mate or 2 blown up has 2 consequences. But it's still a Mech game, so i'm having fun :)

It's fun. Solid B- or C+. It's not without it's flaws. Some missions are too hard, others are way too easy. One thing that bugs me with these games is that you're almost required to keep getting bigger and bigger mechs in your lance/star, whereas in tabletop, you could just run more mechs rather than bigger ones.

At first it felt quite good, but when I got further in the game, it just got weaker and stupider. Few mechs to choose from, weird difficulty spikes, most missions that absolutely hated anyone using ballistic setups. No, this is not a good MechWarrior game and I'm disappointed that I finally bought it even with a huge discount. Do better.

I remember playing MechWarrior 2 and it's later iterations way back in the day. The feeling of stomping around in a huge bipedal tank, and the fantastic music were the two elements that stuck in my mind the most. This game captures the former, but not the latter... I found the music nowhere near as atmospheric, but MW2's music was a hard act to follow. The good points? Yep, stomping around (or practically flying around if using a light mech) shooting lasers, missiles and ballistics is cool, the mechanics are solid, sound effects are fine, the main story is OK but the DLC story is better. In fact for the most part the DLC is a better game... I found the environments, story and missions to be of a higher quality, which is not to say the main game is 'bad' it's just you can see more refinement in the DLC. Bad points? Lasers seem sufficiently powered, other weapons (apart from perhaps LBX) are a little underwhelming. Perhaps this is in line with tabletop and lore, or perhaps this is because lasers are easier to get headshots with. The music is pretty average. The first campaign is a little angry/shouty for my taste, but again perhaps this is in line with the lore. Enemy and Star AI is .... OK. It can be pretty hard not to FF your teammates as they do move around as they fire. Give them orders and they're ok. If you give them short range weapons though, they will close in to use them and often take a lot of fire. I played with an xbox controller... knowing that this is probably not the optimal choice for aiming and limits you effectively to 4 easy to use weapon groups. It just seemed the sorta game I wanted to lean back in my chair and play on the big screen. I could still finish the game on hardest difficulty, but I am fairly sure it would have been easier with M&KB. Overall worth it if you are a battletech fan, get it on sale.
