I get very spooked by horror games and while I had a lot of spooked screams while playing this game it was still enjoyable. It was jump scare based which helped with the anxiety I have in other games when I'm running for my life in some situations. I enjoyed that each part of the puzzles was contained to a certain area and clues are noticeable which help prevent you from running around the house looking for some minor detail. The biggest drawback was the lack of voice acting, there was times where I was so focused on what was going on in the game that I'd miss something said by the character which could help me on my current task. The game also didn't size right to my monitor so it took some time fiddling around with the resolution settings to get it just right each time I started up the game.

Solid horror/haunted house game! I enjoyed the chapters jumping between the two characters, kinda broke up the story a bit. Although, the even numbered character chapters, for some reason, performed not-so-great compared to the other character's chapters. Unsure if this is an issue with my PC or if other's have seen this. The ending chapters were equally chaotic and confusing as I could not really work out the maze that is the house (especially with the doors randomly being locked/unlocked/locked). The jumpscares are plentiful, and although considered "cheap" at times, the atmosphere keeps you on edge through most of the game which makes the jumpscares that much more effective. Price point is a bargain!

It's a poorly translated asset flip of a game with an overly convoluted story, no real gameplay, shoddy unresponsive puzzles, and generic scares. Fun with friends. :D

Great haunted house simulation game! While the stories are somewhat hard to follow, I won't fault the writers, because it is obvious that English is not their first language. If you are looking for a good scare, this is the game for you! I only had trouble really with the pool ball puzzle, as it was a bit confusing, but everything else was pretty straight forward. Had lots of fun, highly recommend :)

The entire house in this game is re-used from another Russian game called "Blackberry" - by a different dev.
That being said, this [recycled] environment is really well done, and I rather enjoyed stumbling around this house again.
But, a really good [recycled] environment is all this game has going for it. The rest is a very generic story with really badly translated text.
If you don't mind the template development and you have a good sense of humor for silly translations, then this game is not bad for its price. Otherwise, I don't recommend it - Blackberry is better, if you like the house setting.

I rarely write reviews, especially the bad ones, but here it is.
This is a game from the same developer as Emika Games horror titles (at least, the name of the developer checks out), but this one is excruciatingly bad. It's weird to see such a poor game from a decent developer.
The visuals are fine, but many indie horrors have fine graphics, it's not hard with modern game engines.
It's badly optimized, I couldn't get more than 30 FPS (mostly less) on ultra settings on i7 and RTX 3050. Lowering the settings didn't help.
The jumpscares are awful and look like they're from a cheap horror movie.
The main character moves really slow. Even slower when you have 20 FPS.
Even though it's a common issue in games from Emika, here the English localization is really awful. It starts with the language selection screen which offers: "Russia" and "English", what?
All in all, the game looks like a very cheap and hasty version of Emika horrors with bad optimization. Also, I got semi-stuck in the very beginning with the paintings, but to proceed further would be a torture for my eyes. It's not the game I'm prepared to play with 20-30 FPS. I would even refund it if it wasn't so cheap and not worth the hustle. I thought I would complete all Emika Games horrors, but it's no longer the case.

I'm nit picking here but there is a few texture pop ins but you soon stop seeing them, this game is very very nice to play so far, very nice frame rate which i always look for first in a game, super creepy with some brilliant jump scares, lets carry on!!
I'm on Chapter 2 and LOVING IT!! It's good to play these types of games again!

Listen guys!
Before I begin, let me tell you that I really do not enjoy giving games the Thumbs Down treatment - Especially when said game barely has a price tag. But Chance at Life is such a pile of averageness and shortcomings that I cannot ignore the flaws just because it looks decent. I have seen enough to be able to tell people to save their time and avoid this.
Let me elaborate.
Chance at Life is an aimless Walking Simulator that throws you pretty much into cold water. But there is no water and you smack your head on the dry ground before they flood the pool with one cheap jump scare after another and drown you with their bare hands until you forget where you came from - or what your name was. I found myself more annoyed on edge waiting for the next jump scare rather than any sort of eeriness/horror of the setting since they were overly frequent. The graphics, music and soundscape are okay, no complaints there.
So, I don't hold my breath for the story aspect of these games. I play them for the jump scares. Does Chance at Life have jump scares? YES. As soon as you enter the manor, you will encounter one random ghost running from A to B after another. Sometimes they feel risky and run at you instead - or away from you. Occasionally even the ghosts get bored and start humming. Or talk to you, not realizing that you in fact are mute, same goes for the pal you end up controlling after each finished chapter.
It was a very abrupt end, almost like it was rushed out of the door. Which is exactly what the games asks you to do. You just suddenly get told to run with a 3-minute-countdown and blindly choose one of three keys opening one of three exits - The End.
Pros
+ Surprisingly beautiful environmental visuals
+ Easy on the pocketbook
Cons
- Half baked and unoriginal plot
- Hilariously bad English translations
- Lackluster sudden race-to-the-exit ending
- Surprise, you have to do it twice
- Jumpscares are cheap and repetitive
- No real pacing or setting of horror or atmospheric buildup
I would not call myself an overly critical gamer. I can appreciate all kinds of low budget games respecting the effort for trying and I don't want to be unnecessarily mean. BUT, I would not even recommend this game if it was free since I simply do not find it worth playing.
2/10 The fact that I, as a big fan of jump scares, am warning you of these unscrupulous childish cheap shots which get old very quickly, says a lot.

Not sure why there's positive reviews. This game is straight up ass lol
Game throws an astronomical amount of "jump scares" at you that arent even remotely scary. Or throws loud noises every 2 seconds which becomes more annoying than anything. The story is, ok at best. But it's not great. Graphics are surprisingly nice. And i guess at its price it's not the worst game in the world. But i can't sit here and lie. Some reviews call this a "hidden gem". Absolutely not....Plain and simple this game is ass. There's no shot this gets an 8.5/10. Those people need to go play actually good horror titles. 4/10

Good game. Some scares got me pretty good. Eerie, creepy vibes throughout the whole game. Puzzles aren't too difficult, but some of the hints could use some tweaks I think.
The English translation needs a lot of work. It's all understandable, but translation errors make for some pretty hilarious tidbits all throughout the game. For me, it was part of the charm.
