I want to like the game, but given how it runs later on and how bugged one particular resource is I simply cannot recommend it. Also there are multiple quality of life improvements that I feel like are missing that are almost mandatory if you want to not strain your eyes trying to look for zones or buildings. Multiple cool concepts but they are executed with very little thought put into them.
Seriously the moment I realized that artifacts vanish from my storage I got upset. Can't progress the game without them and trying to not play with most of the late game buildings and tech tree is some grade A bs

I really tried to like this game because I usually love all colony/city building games. The first time I played, I found the gameplay tedious and uninteresting, and the interface difficult to navigate.
I gave the game another chance when I saw that there were 2 new updates, after playing for a few hours I realized that i was bored out of my mind. Will probably never play again, but keeping the game in case they do a huge re-work.
Looked at the reviews and realized the devs copy pasted the same response to many of the reviews, which made me wonder if they even read it. Hey devs, if you are planning to do that on my review, don't bother.

The world is dying, you have to rebuild society in a strange world and then ....you have to build benches and flags to make people happy otherwise they leave your city (where do they go, to die alone in the desert?). Great game idea and aesthetics, horrible execution with the citizen satisfaction grind. It's an post-apocalypse world, why do citizens care about having tea houses or fancy decorations when water is dwindling and they could all die next day? Game's cute but needs more polish for QoL/UX and citizens' needs stuff. Wait for a discount.

Synergy is a breath of fresh air in the space of city builders, even if its deserts are stifling at first for long-time veterans of the genre. The trick is to unlearn what you have learned from other titles. Rather than try and cram in as much as possible into your districts and arrive at space-saving layouts a la Anno, Synergy rewards players who lean into its collectivist, utopian vision and create spacious permaculture congolmerations.
Building with lots of room in your grid allows you to arrive ultimately at the game's titular synergies, weaving in beneficial plants, supportive structures like fountains and canals, and the wide variety of functional decorations needed to genuinely fulfill your citizens--rather than just keep them alive from cycle to cycle.
Despite it's emphasis upon these finer aspects of life (e.g., tea, socialization, learning), death by starvation or dehydration always seems right around the corner. Figuring out which food sources will work from map to map is a rewarding puzzle, and properly integrating these discoveries into your logistics network before disaster arrives presents a meaningful challenge.

It's a little tedious at times. scanning everything around you. There's so many buildings and so many recipes for everything. For a game like this you need a excellent UI. They've got a decent interface, but you spend far too much time relying on tooptips, to find what your looking for. The world map expeditions are really more of an annoying distraction than fun. Especially, when your up to your eyeballs in the interface. I think it may be better for the player, to speed up progression and streamline things, where they can.
The graphic style is nice, but the audio/music are a bit poor, resulting in a pretty dull and flat experience. I'll come back to it at a later date for another run.

Artstyle is beautiful, plants and their behaviour are interesting, but the game play is just boring.
It lacks the engaging dynamic and storyline from Frostpunk or Ixion.

If I could give it a neutral vote I would.
Pros:
+art style
+functional
+things to unlock
+tracking of individual units.
+plant focus!
Cons:
-the UX around information design is not good: plant information is hard to use flexibly, it's not intuitive to find buildings, the research menu feels like a giant blob of confusion, and the resource menus take some time to interpret.
-the mood is dour without captivation or intrigue. things just sort of happen. it's not bad to watch youtube while playing but then that takes away some immersion.
-the systems are present but they are too straightforward, lacking more sophisticated dynamic interaction compared to other games.
Overall, I think this game could be interesting if you haven't played many strategy games or city-builders and have a bit of patience. To veterans or people easily frustrated, they might find it a bit middling or boring as it does not do enough to deviate from the formula, once you look past the art and overall theming.
I currently would not recommend this to friends, but I am open to changing my mind since I like the vibes and some of the design intent such as the plant focus.

One of the few games that really nails city building and exploration within an alien and hostile environment. There's so much here around climate adaptation and permaculture that hasn't been captured in any games. Kind of like a "terraforming" game but without the cliche focus on planetary-scale geo-engineering of Mars. It's pretty. It's challenging. I really appreciate the devs for creating it.

That's my 20 hours in, and for a game that doesn't say much there's a lot to unpack.
There was almost something special here but as it stands right now, the gameplay is flawed and performance at later stages of a playthrough decreases horribly.
The game looks nice, it's a unique style and I get a sort of fever dream aesthetic from it, although in spite of its nice visuals there's very little effort in creating atmosphere otherwise. It's a nice idea to try and make a colony out of nothing, make use of what nature gives you and try and cultivate that, however here are the bad things that stuck out for me:
- As long as you have one steady food source and water, there isn't really any other factor to consider purely when it comes to survival.
- Trying to upgrade your colony through wellbeing, culture, etc. by spamming benches, flags and crystals when at the end of the day you're not even sure if it made a difference to the culture meter, for example, seems so out of place, particularly when the supposed threat of annihilation is looming next dry season. As in, why must I scramble to try and get my culture from a 9 to a 10, but not care about the next drought at all?
- Trying to get info on what's happening terrain and resource-wise gets pretty convoluted. If I'm checking my picker station to see what they're doing why is there no info about the resources I'm getting from seeding xyz plant, for example. Do I really need to go looking around the encyclopaedia for this info? If I want to check the terrain do I need to memorise all the effects and parameters? I get that there are heat maps to help but at some point you have to throw the player a bone and let him see things at a glance.
- 90% of quests for scenarios are either meeting camps via expeditions for arbitrary tasks or increasing culture/wellbeing/knowledge meters.
- Many many resources seem to get spent as a way of sustaining an area in which culture/wellbeing/etc. via certain buildings, instead of being spent on actual gameplay or construction or whatever other reason that would make more sense. No, just turned into invisible nothingness to increase meters.

I got really frustrated with this game. I wanted to like it. One of the most infuriating things is the game crashes. I've read the forums which suggested turning off the autosaves, but even still, there are a ton of other bugs and it does not fix all the other problems.
For instance, there's a lack of polish on the updates of several mechanics, especially with the citizens not obeying your priorities, or you not really knowing where your workers are. There's a red "Other tasks" number where your workers are supposedly doing something else, but you cannot find out what those "other tasks" are no matter where you click.
Also, if your citizens die of hunger or other causes, there's no real-time update, so the game still thinks you have some workers but you really don't. So you save, then restart, and BOOM, you get a ton of notifications of dead citizens that you didn't know you had dead.
Then when you assign workers to buildings, it's the same thing. You assign people, you check that you have "5 available workers," but then the game tells you "the position is requested but there are no available citizens," so which is it? Ultimately, you can't get your people to work on what you need.
For example, in the dry season, you unassign workers from the Pontoon to have them build wells or focus on ripping out water from the landscape, but NO, they don't do anything and sit "idle" just pacing, so they eventually die of thirst... sigh.
And so on. So no, not recommended.
