There were games like this in my childhood. A true arcade classic! I recommend it if you missed space shooters back in the day.

Astro Bandits has successfully taken me on a thrilling journey through the cosmos, and I couldn't be more impressed with this interstellar gaming experience. As a gamer who appreciates a good space adventure, this game checks all the boxes and then some. First and foremost, the graphics are breathtaking. The attention to detail in creating the vastness of space, diverse celestial landscapes, and, of course, the various spacecraft is truly commendable. The visual effects during intense space battles add a layer of immersion that makes you feel like you're right in the middle of an epic sci-fi saga.

Strap yourself in as you join a gang of badass interstellar outlaws in an epic quest for riches and domination amongst the stars. This indie gem delivers a mind-blowing experience packed with exciting heists, intense shootouts, and heart-pounding chases. The game's pixel art visuals give it an unmistakable retro charm, while its tight controls and fast-paced gameplay keep you on the edge of your seat. Customize your bandit with a variety of unique, badass outfits and weapons, ensuring your style matches your skills. Astro Bandits is a hidden gem that captures the spirit of classic arcade shooters while bringing new twists to the table.

This game seems unfinished. There are 15 levels, and one boss. There are multiple ships to choose from but I can't tell much difference between them. There is no options menu. Navigating the menus must be done with your mouse, but I did fin the Xbox controller will operate your ship. The shield power up seems to only work against the boss (bug?) at the end of level 15. I'm also not crazy about the balance. Killing the final boss made a horrible noise that wouldn't go away until I exited the game. It gets very hard very quick, and the only reason I was able to get to the boss at the end was avoiding most of the harder levels by flying in the top corner. The difficulty balance is made worse that if you die you lose your power up meaning getting a new one is nearly impossible since your one goal is to not get hit. I did like that you can restart the game from the level you last made it do so progressing was still possible and kind of fun. Getting 100% achievements was pretty easy. All in all I would have given this a thumbs down but I only paid 75 cents for it which is cheaper than one single 2 minute game in an arcade, so considering I got about 40 minutes of play out of this game, that is 75 cents well spent. ;)

This game has a cartoony but picturesque, continuously scrolling background and the assets in general look pretty good as a retro-styled shooter. But other than the final boss, the enemies just undulate mindlessly. The levels are thrown together in clumps that tend to box you in with impossible to avoid volleys of shots, so in the end the most viable strategy involves using your few seconds of post-destruction invincibility to get to a top corner and try to duck past enough enemies and shots to pass the level. Other than that, you can grind until you win all the ships which seem to have the same abilities, there's a final boss to beat, and then you're done. I don't know why somebody would waste nice assets on not much programming or level design, but here you go.
