Imagine a tamagotchi game but for lil bugs. The art is exquisite and the bugs are really cute!
Simple gameplay, deep story...
I was downloading the game at first demo, with the though of some game to put at the background while working at office. But that was quite a revelation to find out it was much more than retro style tamagotchi. The story is also simple, but roots to the core.
I was always weak for the living creatures and plants, that this game made me cry not once. Not just cause of the story line itself, but cause there are a group of people, who were caring enough to develop this game.
It brought back the hope in humanity for me, that is difficult to keep nowadays.

You play as a scientist raising bugs through their life-cycle in a secret cabin/makeshift lab in the woods. There is a story that unfolds through letters and snippets from the outside world. Your bugs can develop various traits depending on how you raise them. You can acquire furniture for their terrariums, give them hats and play mini-games.
Overall: I really enjoyed this game and would recommend people try the demo if the concept appeals. I did find it quite flawed but that doesn't stop me from recommending.
Cons:
The story/gameplay was quite short for what it could have been. You can keep playing sandbox style after it ends but it feels a bit pointless. I wasn't motivated to try and 100% things. There are only a few bug types and no variations on each of these. The interface felt a bit clunky sometimes, especially when placing/changing furniture, and sometimes in minigames. Traits felt somewhat useless outside of meeting objectives. They did stuff - studious bugs help you unlock bug facts, athletic ones earn you double winnings in minigames, explorers might forage extra currency while you're away, as examples - but it felt minimal, and there was no overarching objective, just lots of small unrelated ones to work on one at a time. I felt some features, like taking photos of the bugs, were under-utilized. I got to the end with a lingering thought there was more I would have liked to have accomplished.
The game does lots of things right too. I liked how the story unfolded. The bugs were really fun to learn about and interact with (at least early on). I liked the simple, pixel art graphics. I wish it opened up better at the end so you don't feel like the game ends when the story does. It should feel like the beginning of the next phase, sandboxy but with goals that tie in to each other. Each bug lives and dies and has no impact once it's gone, they never interact (with each other or the ecosystem).
Still recommend though. Try the demo! Just don't get too attached because the demo bug you raise won't carry over to the main game.

Love this game! Was a blast to play through, the mini games were never too hard and the pixel art style is very charming. The surplus of bug facts is pretty engaging too, there's a lot that I didn't know! I've never seen a game quite like this before, not a lot of love out there for our inverts. So this really hit the spot, and I'm looking forward to more updates.
My only minor nitpick was just that I wanted to progress through the game and was held back just waiting for bugs to grow. I do like the mini games a lot and I think the reward yield is great, but I was still a little impatient. But there is some plus sides to it, you get enough time to make sure your goals can be obtained. And I'm obviously thankful that the bugs do live for as long as they do so that you can really bond with them.
I saw some people mention the price was too high and in my opinion, no, it's not. Video games are a luxury item, saying it's too expensive is just a spoiled opinion. Everything is increasing in price, it's just the way the economy works. I'm more than happy to pay the price of a meal for a great game. Wait for it to go on sale if it's truly too much. Support your passionate artists and game developers, it's good for you!

Overall, Bugaboo Pocket is a really cute game with amazing pixel art, and is great for anyone who is really into entomology. I've learnt lots of facts and i've enjoyed interacting with all my bugs, as well as the sweet story. That being said, the minigames can feel a bit too basic and repetitive sometimes, and I feel myself unsure of what to do besides do them over and over. It would be nice to see more potential interactions with the bugs too, besides just feeding and petting them. I had a good time playing this game, but it still has loads of potential and opportunities to add more features in. Would love to see tarantulas get added! :-)

This game is very cozy and cute! At its current price point, I hope to see continued development with the game- as there is not a large amount of gameplay as it stands. The gameplay that is there, however, is decently done. Although I really enjoy this game, I can't wait to see it bloom into its greatest potential!

It currently doesn't have many bugs yet (which i assume will change over time), but it has a LOT of really interesting facts and teaches you about where to touch which species. if you wanna learn about insects, i really recommend it!
Along with that, it also has lore added to it, which i personally don't need, but could be interesting for others.

I love this game a lot, but I have a glitch that doesn't allow me to play the game :(
Literally I'm into the tittle menu without any options besides settings and quit.
I hope this problem gets solved, but besides that? Absolute amazing!

Wow. Bugaboo Pocket absolutely does it's job of helping bugs seem less scary and easy to love. I have cried a little every single time a bug passes away. Bugaboo Pocket handles every stage of life for a bug as important, meaningful, and exciting. May this game cause anyone who plays it to expand their empathy for all creatures great and small, even if they aren't cuddly and cute. I've watched this game's development forever via social media posts and I'm absolutely not kidding when I say it is the game I've looked most forward to playing in 2025. It has absolutely delivered!

Don't understand the good reviews to be honest, and I wish I could refund the game. There's not a lot to do and everything seems pretty badly designed in terms of user experience and actual fun. The worst part is the frankly insane number of loading screens for a game this size. They only last ~5 seconds but there's SO MANY of them. For example go into the terrarium, loading screen. Click the button for minigames, loading screen. Choose the minigame, loading screen. Fail the minigame, loading screen kicks you back to the terrarium. To replay the minigame you have to go back through the other loading screens. It's crazy to me
