Quite a disappointment after the excellent first game, so don't get this just because you liked that one. Goetia 2 is horrible at communicating what it actually wants and what you can do or where you should go at any given time. The puzzles are strangely as obtuse as they are simple and pretty often don't make a lot of sense or feel like busywork. Haven't had that little fun with a game in quite some time. Even the story is a boring mess and never made me care in the slightest about the two characters I supposedly want to save from their situation. Neither did it get me interested even remotely in what the antagonist (?) was all about.

Beautiful sceneries & sinister moments, loved the atmosphere. Some puzzles were hard for me cuz of the really open nature in the locations, items & puzzles, but manageable still. I was afraid to try it, but lucklily at the moment I haven't found most of the bugs mentioned, maybe thanks to the recent patches & fixes.

I really liked the first Goetia, but this sequel is honestly just a mess. Poor writing, obtuse puzzle design and riddled with bugs, some of them gamebreaking, making it possible to get stuck with no way of progress quite a long way into the game. Sad to say this is a waste of time, as I was hoping for something of similar quality as the original game.

Everything is worse than the first Goetia. The story is minimal. The art is less inspired and the atmosphere is not as good. No controller support for PC as well. 5/10

it brakes my heart but wow this was bad, puzzles made no sense and the story even less. Loved Goetia 1 but this is just bad and the bugs are horrible. Had to restart from the start 3 times due to them .... sush a shame. The ending made no sense ...

I'm going to join in on the recent positive reviews and say this game is awesome. I was really weary about buying it right now or not, since I really really loved the first one (definitely one of my favorite games of all time), and I didn't want to be disappointed (the first few negative reviews definitely painted a bleak picture). However, I decided to go for it after the first patch came out, and I'm glad I did. Before starting my proper review, please, bear in mind, my recorded playtime is wrong, I was having a weird issue with my laptop and games made in Unity (none others were affected, strangely), and my network connection died a short while after starting to play it, almost every time; this has nothing to do with the game itself, but with my laptop. My actual playtime (I kept track of it) was 9:30 hs, and I believe I found everything there was to find, without using any walkthroughs. Now onto the review: While I liked the first one a bit more, I still loved this one. I didn't find any major bugs, the first patch seems to have ironed them out, and most complaints found in the first few negative reviews are thankfully solved. It still needs a bit of polishing here and there, and there are minor bugs present. When compared to the first one (which probably was also polished over a short period of time after release, reaching its current level), it still needs some work, and there are a few improvements to be made here and there (e.g. some animations replay when you reenter some rooms, sometimes it's a bit harder to go to the next screen while holding an object because the arrow can disappear, small stuff like that). However, the overall general quality is pretty high, and it's definitely a great experience as it is right now. Most ingredients from the first game are here: the very cool, eerie soundtrack and sound design; the beautiful artistic backgrounds; many elements that are there to make gameplay easier (like the map to travel between distant places, the codex to retain every written document, and the ability to show all hotspots in a scene by pressing "c", etc); the engaging story (which, admittedly, starts out a bit slower than the one in the first game, but once it gets going, it's not bad at all; it does require to pay a lot of attention to detail and it's recommended to play it on a regular basis until completion, to avoid forgetting stuff; still, you can reread anything need be, thanks to the codex). There are some additions, like a widget showing pictures of the characters, which change in response to stuff that happens in-game, and also a lot more interaction between the playable character and other characters (like the main demon); puzzles are easier too, you definitely won't be finding ones like the infamous pipe organ puzzle from the first game here. I believe some people may take issue with these changes, but they didn't bother me at all; I think it's fine to experiment a bit and try new things, and so I wasn't expecting everything to be exactly like the first one. The story ends up in a way similar to the first game, which requires some mulling over, but I was satisfied with it (and it also teases a third game, which I really hope will happen in the future). Bear in mind, you should play the first game before this one, since they are connected, story-wise. All in all, this was a great game, which I vastly enjoyed (I couldn't wait to keep going each day). I did like the first one better, but I'm glad I bought this now and gave it a spin. I'll definitely be checking out any new games these developers make in the future. I totally recommend this.

It's a solid adventure game with beautifully drawn backgrounds, intelligent and mostly fair puzzles and intriguing story. I cannot in good heart not recommend it. Yet compared to the original Goetia, it also felt like a bit of a letdown. Gone are the unlockable powers that provided alternative solutions to puzzles. The game is significantly smaller (roughly 70 scenes vs. roughly 100 in Goetia 1). As far as I can tell, there is only one ending this time around. On the plus side, the puzzle difficulty is more even - they felt on average a little more difficult than in the first game, but without the difficulty spikes like that infamous music puzzle.

I honestly didn't enjoy this game. A storyline doesn't exist. Two hours of playtime and only really one character talking to himself most of the time. The map is all over the place and is difficult to navigate especially if carrying an item. The puzzles didn't really make sense and not really thought provoking. Not really impressed with the environments considering it's supposed to be Venice I guess.

I was so excited to see a Goetia 2 released, I actually grabbed my laptop and purchased the game immediately upon hearing of its release. The first game was such an involved puzzling adventure that I was enthralled from the first second, so of course I could not resist this. Unfortunately, that is my joy for this game slowly withered and died the further into the game I got. Immediately upon loading the story line was vague and almost non-existent and by the city center I stumbled upon a game ending glitch that forced me to quit and restart the game in its entirety. Nonetheless, I trudged on back through map after map, puzzle after puzzle racking my brain for solutions to convoluted riddles that left me feeling less than intelligent. Alas that is my own folly and that I gladly accept; however, what I can not accept is that after almost nine hours of gameplay and countless brain cells overloaded scouring maps over and over in hopes of seeking that elusive one hundred percent completion achievement, I once again encountered a game ending glitch. I came to acquire the lodestone and attempted the ritual only to find that I am completely unable to even click upon the items to begin the ritual and when I tried to re-claim my body I received a blurb from Daphne and then.... nothing. Just absolutely, heart wrenchingly, nothing. It is a good game, that I was enjoying, but my bitterness at this disheartening turn of events has honestly left me with a feeling in my chest somewhere between a scream and a cry. I feel so torn in my ruling here, part of me wants to recommend this intriguing and complex world of puzzles and part of me wants to tell you to turn back and not bother so as to spare you the heart break that I am currently enduring. I suppose I will say this, go forth with caution, if you choose to purchase and enjoy this game, do so with the trepidation of knowing that at any moment you too could suffer a game ending blow. I don't know if I will ever come back to this game, if I do I hope it will have been patched enough for me to finally fulfill my goal.

I loved the first Goetia and I was very excited for the sequel and it just dissapoints right from the start. I didn't like the characters both when it comes to visual design and writing, so from the start didn't feel invested in the story. But I kept playing for the mechanics and it also fell short in that aspect - the logic went out of the window, some puzzles are just ridiculous. I don't even know if I want to finish it at this point.
