Everhood 2 is a unique experience. My first exposure to Everhood was the trailer for 2, where a slew of reviews said to try the first game first because they are vastly different experiences--and this is true without a doubt. HOWEVER, where many found the vast difference in story and direction to be a downgrade I can't in good faith agree. The first Everhood is a gripping story with surprisingly fresh mechanics, so if riveting story is your jam the first game is for you. The second, however, is a perfect "relax, don't think too much, and have fun" kind of game. 10/10 got scammed by a snake

Fun to play, worth the money, with great music and visuals, but in general a huge downgrade from the original game.

Yes the ending is kinda weird, it could have been executed better, but the rest of the game is actually so good that i can excuse it, i'm loving trying to 100% this

I mean, honestly It's not awful. It's story pales in comparison to the first one and the idea that
the normal ending of Everhood 1 is non-canon
is upsetting to say the least. But the gameplay is such a massive improvement from the first, and honestly I still found myself enjoying the story. A bit disappointed this game didn't give me an existential crisis, like the first one did, but it's still a good game.

Just like the first game, I played this for one of my best friends. This game has a lot less concise of a story than the first game...but I think its overall themes still stick the landing and remain relavant to the story the game wants to tell and how it ends up relating to the first game.
The first game is about life and death. 2 is about friends and facing your demons together with a more inward take. I think its less good than the first game story wise...but...
Oh the gameplay is so fucking good. Its so so good. If you remotely enjoyed the gameplay of hte first game, play 2. It is so so worth it.

I like how different it is. People are way too harsh, it's not like this game is completely unrelated to the first.
And the music is better than the first in my opinion.

I wish steam offered a mixed recommendation option as this game has some aspects that are quite amazing such as it's gameplay, visuals, and overall OST, but also quite a few things such as the boring repeated enemies, and it's borderline incomprehensible progression and story that can outright ruin your experience depending on how you take things. If the overall gameplay and visuals is what you loved most about Everhood 1, this game is honestly a blast, but if you are looking for a good meaningful story such as the first, your really not going to find it here. That all said, I found the positives here to far outweigh the negatives and I personally had quite a bit of fun here.
Also the Dragon fight is peak, honestly might be my favorite between the 2 games.

I beat it and all I could think was how do you fumble such a fantastic story the first game had so badly? It felt like a large majority of the time and effort went into music and combat which are undeniably the best parts about this game. But that's it. Even the characters felt like they didn't have enough time to really captivate you or make you care about them which is such a far step away from Everhood 1. Can't recommend this.

If you searching for absolute banger music, very fun fights, I HIGHLY recommend playing this game.
Of course it's not everyone piece of cake, a lot of people expected deep story/lore from Everhood continuation, well there is no continuation, it's a plain simple story with many jokes and gags and I think it's absolutely fine. If you want story, DON'T buy this game, you will be dissapointed, but for the people who loves music and loves challenges, this game is absolutely for you. I loved the first game and I loved second one as well equally. They made fighting system way better than Everhood, they improved a lot since Everhood and I appreciate it, it's not 10/10 game, but for 20$, I think is very well worth the money.

Everhood 2 is a game i would very much like to enjoy as much as the first but i just cant.
The only major improvements to the game to me was the overall graphic enhancements (especially during the battles) and the overall game-play itself.
GAMEPLAY- In the first game an annoying factor for me was the general way to damage enemies however in the second the gameplay for this is drastically different and much improved on. This however changed the achievements for the fights to be focused on 1 hitting them as opposed to no hitting them. This is ok, but this comes at the cost of having some fights just not being as fun as they could be. In addition unlike the first game this game focuses more on being a rpg (even going so far as to have a level up system) this is both a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing is that, as mentioned earlier the fights have more depth to them. For example switching weapons to enemies that are more weak to specific colour types. This helps make the game not just seem as a copy and paste as the first however this also kind of leads to the bad thing about it. In an attempt to make the world more rpg like, the enemies you face are reused a lot which makes them just kind of annoying to fight after a a while as you end up having to do same fight on repeat quite often.
GENERAL ENEMY COMPLAINTS- In the first game fights were unique which made them memorable to which i can remember almost every encounter. However in the second even after finishing the story i can only remember the main story fights and that about it. Also the fights are just way shorter which makes them less unique and memorable as opposed to the longer fights of the first (even the major ones).
MUSIC- the same issue with the aforementioned memorable issue. In the moment there are a couple really good tracks. For example i liked the dragon and cyber enemy themes however for most of the ost i cant remember it to save my life. This is a shame because to me almost every song in everhood 1 was a masterpiece to which i could hum most songs out loud even without it on in the background. To sum it up this game has more 'in the moment' music then just general bangers.
CHARACTERS - reusing Sam from the first game is a neat idea as it helped to capture the attention of everhood 1 fans. However im not sure if its the setting, plot or just overall writing but he just isn't as fun to be around. All he ever does is try to steal things without anything else to his character. In addition the other main character (i forgot his name) is very similar in that they are just one note and do the same thing for the entire game with no mix up. This would be okay if they weren't the main cast but they are. As a result, the main cast is just generally boring to be around. However i will say i think the main antagonist to the game (the shade) is very well done and fun/mysterious although he only really got any screen time at the end of the game so you don't experience much of him.
COMEDY - now comedy is subjective. I'm not one to tell you what to find funny and what not to find funny. However due to the stale characters i found myself more bored at the jokes rather than laughing (plus i think the first game was just more funny, for example the board game i found to be particularly entertaining). So as a whole i think the general comedy is a major downgrade to the first game
MAP/SETTING - in the first game i would argue the quality of the areas was quite consistent in the sense that most areas were enjoyable to explore. However in this, it is very hit or miss. Some areas such as the 3d realm and the cyber area i thought were quite fun however most of the other areas to me were just bland or boring. This is probably because of the more detailed look to the game due to the graphic enhancements though. To me this makes the game fail when compared to the first game since in the first game they had more mysterious feels to them. But this isn't a major deal as i think the map design is still good (just not as good as the first).
STORY - To put it bluntly, i thought the story sucked. This is due to a multitude of reasons. 1. As mentioned earlier i don't like the characters, so when something would happen with them (very rare moments) i wasn't very interested. For example when one of the main companions gets corrupted in the cyber area. 2. The story hates to explain anyone's motivation for anything (apart from stealing of course). Unlike the first game where you start doing bad things for what you learn later to be a good cause. This games main character has no purpose whatsoever but to wander around and that's kind of it. Later you aim to become god but like there is no explanation as to why it would be a source of motivation (in fact it kinda presents itself as a bad thing later on) so i don't think that really counts. 3. Nothing really happens for very long periods of time. A huge chunk of the game its just preparing to fight you're mind dragon (again no explanation as to why i should really care about this thing but okay i guess). But its like after that, they forgot they needed something plot wise to drive the story forwards. This leads to the rest of the game just being random stuff happening until the shade stuff (which was good but it is at the very end, so again okay i guess). 4. I might be dumb and interpreted the games message wrong but it seems that the general message the game says is that more doesn't necessarily mean better in the sense that we asked for more content when we already had a wrapped up story so here's something disappointing. I don't mind the general message if it was properly shown. However the game does not make any attempt at helping you to understand the purpose/meaning towards anything so the message isn't as engaging or interesting. Its more of a punch to the balls to the players who enjoyed the first game. But despite this complaint i still feel the main guy who shows you this interpretation of a message, the shade, is still cool. i just wished this kind of story telling was presented all throughout rather than just at the end.
GENERAL CONCLUSIONS - i think as a stand alone game this could be quite interesting and fun to play and it even has a cool message behind players always wanting more content. However due to this being a sequel it needs to be compared to its predecessor. Unfortunately it just fails to capture what the first game did. As a result the majority of fans who have played the first game (like me) will ultimately feel dissapointed with the game as a whole. if you haven't played the first then i would highly recommend it over this game however by not playing the first then this game might be a way better experience. Again i would like to reiterate. This game is not bad but it just doesn't compare to the expectations that the majority of those who played the first game had for it.
