Addictive when you first play and then replaying is not too shabby

A voyeurism-based game in which you figure out mysteries related to people you spy on through various cameras.

This game is a sequel to the original Do Not Feed the Monkeys, inheriting all of the basic gameplay but giving it a new coat of paint in the form of its setting. You’ll once again have to watch various camera feeds in order to gather information on the people and events shown in them, then use this insight to conduct research in order to figure out certain details about the respective camera feeds. You can then supply the gathered information to the organisation enabling your spying in the first place in exchange for some money. This is done through time limited tasks you receive from time to time. Alternatively, you may also use your abilities to interact with the people you’re watching, e.g. by chatting with them or sending them certain objects, which will influence their behaviour. All the while, you have to pay bills, buy food and purchase additional camera feeds as requested by the organisation supplying them. Odd jobs are used to stock up on cash, though these of course take time, meaning you may miss events on the camera feeds, as these happen on a set schedule. A similar issue also arises from your need to sleep, with all of this culminating in quite a bit of management work on your part to keep things balanced. Especially on your initial playthrough, when you aren’t acquainted with the structure of each camera feed, this comes together as genuinely challenging. Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099 presents itself in a pixel art look which I found to be quite well executed. The game’s setting is decently interesting, presenting you with a satirical look into the future. While I find this “corporate dystopia”-setting to be rather stale given the abundance of media using it, I was still well entertained by the game overall. There are some surprisingly unique setups and a bunch of jokes I very much enjoyed. Saying this, I also feel that I didn’t enjoy replaying the game as much as its predecessor, as it features fewer camera feeds (though still more than you’ll discover on your first playthrough) along with less variation in the way you can interact with each of them. Unlike the original game, there are 2 DLCs available for this one, together containing 6 more camera feeds that bring some much-needed variety. All of these feel quite distinct and match the quality of the ones found in the base game. For people coming back to the game to experience this new content, there’s an option which prioritizes giving you the DLC feeds over the regular ones, which I was very happy about.

I enjoyed my time with Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099. While I think a fee changes to the tried and tested formula would have been nice, I also have to say that the returning gameplay is just as fun as in the original and the new setting works well enough to keep it from going stale too fast.

I've had a lot of fun with this game and enjoy the fact that they have come out with dlc's and given the option to prioritize the cage selections towards the dlcs. I also like the fact that after you have beaten the game once you can go back and play free mode which gives you a chance to play all the cages. It was a pain to try and get all the cages on the first game when you kept getting the same cages every time. But this game was fun and since most cages gave you different options for closing them out it made the playable time longer. I just wish there was fewer cages that were non-interactive. Those cages are boring to me. I would rather have the ones where you can interact with them.

The first one was more interesting for me, maybe more because of the feeling of nostalgia. But it's not bad, I liked the game, I enjoyed playing it, but I don't really want to replay it again like the first part. But for me it's a 7/10, and if you really liked the gameplay of the first game, you should give this one a chance too.

I will admit this one is not nearly as good as the first, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. And personally, as someone who struggled a bit balancing the hunger, sleep, and money aspect of the games, this one having an easier option with no penalty to achievements was a nice touch! It's much harder to maintain money in this one, at least for me, so having no penalization on that mode helped a ton.
