I like this game, simple yet fun enough to keep you entertained. But in this early access state, there isn't much content. You can max out everything pretty easily and in a couple of runs. But it has potential. Just need a few more months or years.

The game does seem abandoned yes, but its still good for a couple hours fun if you like minions summoning like survivors game. Great to play while listening to a podcast or something.

I find Grim Horde to be fun. It is a action roguelike where you play the bad guy. It also feels like a bullet hell game which can be a selling point. It plays with a joystick and single button and the controls are tight. The best thing is it is early access so it will improve and grow. So if you want to rule a 8 bit world and spread your darkness across the land with your Grim Horde, then this is your game.

Edit:
The things that really needed to be improved on, haven't been. 5 months since last update. Changing this review to a 'Do not recomment'
TLDR:
I like what the game does, but it has to make some design decisions before the true fun of this game can be properly unlocked, because it's not there yet.
Full Review:
There is something good and fun here.
But it's in a rough state.
There are numerous little bugs present, which makes me feel as though this game needed a couple weeks of testing prior to EA-Launch. But I'm sure these will get resolved.
Now, the 'good and fun' of the game, doesn't actually feel too apparent when you play the game. In fact, it might not even be there right now in the game's current state.
Currently, it seems your whole gameplay style is focused around 'spawn portals, avoid arrows, collect souls/red stone.' The upgrades don't seem to change a whole lot other than just some numerical differences. Now, numerical differences are fine and good, but nothing really 'changed.' Maybe I need more than 30 minutes (across 3 matches). To see when things change. I don't know. Right now, it doesn't feel like what i'm doing 'really matters.' Other than dodging arrows and collecting souls. There's no real decision-making or build-making with the level-up system.
There's no numbers to be found in relation to the hero you pick, and their minion capabilities. It's all 'lore fluff.' I love lore fluff. But I also love knowing what the stats are of what I'm choosing in a game like this.
The 'How to Play' is pretty straightforward, as is the gameplay itself.
My only concern is that my experience as the starter-demon, has left me wondering "Is this the entire gameplay loop?" "Do I just walk in circles and spawn portals and collect the souls when I'm done, to increase things numerically and then just walk(fly) over to the nearest houses and repeat?"
It's fun when things change, and I'm worried that this game doesn't realize that.
I'll probably keep the game. It's the proper price for this kind of game and based on what I've seen, I'm sure the Dev can improve the game as needed, if they listen to feedback.
This is a 'Recommend' because the price and what I've seen so far, lead me to conclude that this CAN become a better game. At least, a 'good/ok' game. The dev just has to be able to get it there. Luckily, it's not far off.

** Be aware it's got a bug with the boss that hasn't been resolved for a while now so i'm not sure if it's being fixed now **
For under 5 buck this is satisfying.
It's not as flashy as playing vampire survivors with all the slot machine-type visuals but I really like it so far

Updated Note:
Nearly a year after this game's last update, I'm sad to say the game seems to be abandoned. I'll change my review to reflect the change if the developer ever continues work on it.
I bought this game a while back with the understanding that it was in Early Access and it would get better with time.
Unfortunately, while the concepts behind it are interesting, the game itself has failed to live up to my expectations. I hope to see improvement in the future (at which point I will reassess my recommendation), but development has just been too slow and the game itself is too underbaked to be something I can recommend.
I really hope the developer hasn't abandoned the project, and look forward to coming back to this in a year or so to see what's change.

Super interesting concept in the survivors-like, reverse bullet hell, horde survival genre. Unfortunately, it never made it past the concept stage. It is horrifically unbalanced and there's not enough content here for more than a few hours. The developer hasn't made any updates in the last six months, so I think it's unfortunately safe to say that it's abandonware at this point. This is made even more unfortunate by the fact that their previous games were finished and well-received.
All that said, the current price is three bucks (USD). If you're a fiend for horde survival games like I am, it may be worth picking up--you'll still get about a dollar per hour of entertainment.
If the developers pick the project back up, I'll update my review.

Fun little game, that WILL be better with... a lot of polishing :>
Few pointers:
* The pixel art should be more consistent - peasants and elites looks like they are from two different games;
* There is no tutorial and that's probably the first thing that should be take care of, the most things in the game seems like self-explanatory, but you don't really know what you should do once you hop in, i think that even few tooltips could work;
* No minimap - might be by design but i'm not sure if it's kind of game, that should not have one - you move pretty slowly and risk of getting to the place you already pillaged is not really comforting;
* UI - it feels like from some kind of flash game, i'm guessing you have pixel art artists for you disposal, maybe you should make advantage of it?
* fix the sound volumes for sfx and demon lord grunts/moans
Also the game might benefit from a bit more of micromanaging, gameplay feels like too static imo.
Right now i don't feel like getting too attached to it, but will follow for sure and come back later!

you are a demon or something. you float around while manually placing towers every few seconds (these go away a few seconds later). sometimes arrows are shot at you. while this happens, goblins and skeletons automatically run around and hurt people and buildings. you collect bricks so you can buy upgrades so you can move faster, or whatever. that's kind of the whole game!
