ask yourself one question do you like punchout? if the answer is "yes" GET THIS GAME IMMEDIATELY if the answer is "no" then go play punchout and then come back the game also has a really intresting story, i personally enjoy it so thats also a plus. this game is a 9/10 (minus one point for it being quite short, but im sure the dev will add more fights eventually) now go play it

This game started rough, really rough. I tell ya, Star punches whiffing/getting blocked mid-punish, no counter-hits, slight input lag (playing on Deck), timed blocks being required instead of optional, the ocassions to dodge earlier or later than I'd expect, most of the humor falling flat on me. Hooo, it took a lot of nips in the butt to adjust. I was starting to think my purchase was a waste and regretted not giving feedback sooner with the SAGE demo, but... the longer I beared with the game's flaws, the more I began to see something it does right besides making attacks fairly easy to read: the element of surprise and the creativity that comes with it. After the first circuit, which is kinda basic and that's fair, it gets more experimental. Almost everyone has a trick up their sleeve; just when I'm getting comfortable or confident too quickly, the game nails the timing to catch me offguard. Hard to say much else without spoiling using examples, but I assure you, the second circuit and beyond is unlike anything you've seen in the Punch-Out series. And just like in Punch-Out, opponents and their patterns are consistent enough for you to find optimizations or maybe exploits after your first run; a sort of unique appeal that Punch-Out has. Despite that the star punch isn't anything useful outside of damage, it's still nice to find opportunities to land it. There's even someone you can loop til TKO after dodging one string of blows. The game has a similar replay value, minus records for best times, and I appreciate that. There were some bumps in the road (screw
the skeleton guy
in particular), and yet, I found it a worthwhile experience that scratched the Punch-Out itch I've been feeling for prolly a decade now. I know there's other indies with the same main inspiration, but I personally don't vibe with their execution. Out of the ones I played, Sock It is perhaps the most well-designed. Visual clarity with almost big enough windows to react, clever obstacles, and near-consistency (also, music by Reski!, who you might know for composing for a certain beach level). Consider picking this one up. (These were fixed as of 1.0.51, thanks!) [strike]To the devs, a couple visual bugs I noticed regarding the color flashes:
- Archer in the LARPer fight has the green and orange mixed up. - Skeleton in Title Defense uses a yellow flash for the right punch.
[/strike]

It’s a good game! The amount of fights in the game are the key selling point of this, all of them having some form of variance and replayability. The controls are snappy, and don’t slog at all. Very important for this type of game. I like the visual style, and the music is fantastic. I beat it mostly in one sitting without putting the controller down. Very rewarding gameplay. My biggest gripe with the game is everything that wasn’t the actual boxing game itself. Whenever a platforming section came up, I just wanted to go back to the game. This one’s mostly just personal taste. The dialog wasn’t too interesting and the characters themselves didn’t have too much personality. I also never entered halftime except for once because matches ended too quick (nothing wrong with a shorter match). A good chunk of the boxers are overdone tropes with no real sense of cohesion but there’s a few funny ones. I got into their movesets but never really fully embraced the identity of the fighters or the entire game itself if that makes sense. Aside from that, some of the attacks visually aren’t telegraphed too well or visually do not connect. The second circuit final fight was a bit visually confusing, and I found out I was fighting it wrong by luck. I didn’t really know what caused it to go into the state where you could hit it for at least ten separate fights. I appreciate the visual color cues though, but I had to look into the settings to get it down and I don’t remember that being explicitly taught anywhere. But don’t let the last two paragraphs turn you off from this game!I would recommend this to anyone who’s looking for another Punch-Out!!
