Honestly, this game might just be my brainrot of the year.
Lately, I’ve had trouble enjoying games, especially those that constantly push you to 100% them. That kind of obsession has honestly made me fall out of love with gaming as I don't want to dump hours into games I otherwise don't have a passion for; however, this one reawakened that part of me that plays game for the sake of having careless fun. There’s something about it that makes progress feel satisfying without demanding perfection. I think it’s the game’s aesthetic— it’s goofy and chaotic.
...and that right there is what makes the game so fun to me.
So let’s go over some of the best things about this game:
First, the range of movement within levels is absurdly open. You have a flexible variety of ways to do tech. There’s no single way to traverse a stage. I’ve accidentally skipped chunks of levels without following the intended path, and I love that the game’s design allows for that kind of freedom.
The music direction? It scratches my brain in all the right ways. Sean Bialo and Tee Lopes cooked so hard with the OST! The sheer number of intricately composed tracks is unreal—I’d describe it as “high-octane clown music.” It’s chaotic, energetic, and incredibly fun. This has become a daily album for me, and I’m absolutely buying the vinyl.
The character designs are phenomenal. Penny is so vibrant, and the cast around her makes me giddy. In fact, the whole game makes me giddy—it has the vibe of an old Wii game, especially with its graphics.
Story-wise, there isn’t much lore, but I think that’s for the best. So many games these days overstuff themselves with lore, and it gets exhausting. As a lore writer myself, I really appreciate when a game can just relax and have fun.
Now, for the issues:
There is a lot of jank— and I mean A LOT. I’ve broken the camera, clipped into walls, zipped across stages due to weird collision, and encountered all sorts of inconsistencies with objects, enemies, and even bosses. But honestly, does this affect things significantly? Not particularly, if anything it just adds to the chaos, and I kind of love it for that.
The animations are also hit-or-miss. Some are masterfully done, while others feel stiff and uninspired. I’m not sure why there’s such a disparity, but certain characters would’ve definitely benefited from more squash-and-stretch and dynamic facial expressions.
Boss fights also have a weird difficulty curve. Some are absurdly tedious, while others are a total cakewalk. I spent more time struggling with the second world boss than the final boss, mostly due to the game’s mechanics.
That being said, if you’re into fast-paced platformers, I highly recommend this one!
...just maybe not for $30. For a game with this many unrefined issues, I’d say $20 is the perfect price for a game like this.

I really enjoy this game as its platforming is incredibly satisfying and the artstyle and music make it a very fulfilling experience, that being said it IS buggy and, if you want to max your score, its very easy to do so and basically ignore the intended way of playing to get your combo as high as possible, while simultaneously being very annoying to maintain your combo with consistently, as sometimes you'll hit the ground and lose it and other times you'll keep it.
I would recommend it, but only if you're someone who doesn't mind buggy, yet clearly made with passion, experiences!

First off, this is absolutely a good and enjoyable game. However, it's got a few problems that stop it from being fantastic. First, the enemies are all incredibly weak, even the bosses. The penguins are especially harmless, they never captured me even a single time. The bottomless pits, however, are VERY harsh, and send you all the way back to the previous checkpoint, which can sometimes be a minute or so of progress. I can understand if the enemies were made intentionally weak to target a younger audience, but then why are the pits so punishing? I wish that the enemies were MUCH stronger and that the pits were much weaker.
Second, I would REALLY like to try to complete each level super fast. But unfortunately, the game does not give any sort of ranking system. "3 minutes 20 seconds" means nothing to me. "S rank on time" would be SO valuable here. It does have worldwide leaderboards, but players have somehow managed to beat any level in just a few seconds, so that's useless. There are two levels that have Steam achievements for beating them in a certain time. But why can't every level have a "goal time?" It does have a score goal for each level, though, which rewards you with a postcard. But you can just do the same tricks over and over again, sooo...
Third, the fact that each world has a different amount of levels in it is quite strange. Like, only TWO levels in one world?? And six levels in another? And some of them don't have boss fights. Though, the boss fights are a cakewalk, so I guess that isn't saying much. There is still absolutely enough content to make it worthwhile, but it just feels kinda unsatisfying when a world is super short.
Again, this game was super fun and absolutely worth playing. But I feel like if some of these changes were made, it would be, like, Pizza Tower levels of greatness. ESPECIALLY if each level had a target time to aim for.

A fun yet short time based 3D platformer. The aim of the game is speed, get through levels as fast as possible while completing 6 mini challenges in each. The art design is simple yet charming, the music is exhilarating and the story, although kept to a minimum, manages to give the player enough context to keep moving forward. There are many moves your character can perform, allowing you to outmanoeuvre obstacles and enemies so you can keep up the pace.
I found the movement for the most part to be very responsive, however there were a handful of instances where the character didn't perform an input which lead to some frustration. I also encountered quite a few bugs, these would result in the character clipping into the environment, forcing me to reload certain checkpoints.
Apart from those few issues it's still a very enjoyable game and I'd recommend to anyone that appreciates a good platformer!

A rollercoaster of emotions with this one:
The good:
+Incredible movement (when you actually get the hang of it). You can do a lot with the game's momentum if you know what you are doing, and the levels are very well accomodated for that
+Level design keeps getting better and better towards the end. The stages have a cool theme with a spin, and there a lot of little gimmicks added in each world.
+At first didn't love the music, but there are a lot of certified bangers in here
+Good and rewarding collectibles that flow very well within the levels
+The bonus levels you unlock with the collectibles are exactly what they needed to be; focused challenges that really feel like a bonus stage with no connection to the main game.
The bad:
-The boss battles ended up being more of a nuisance than a good addition, even the final boss was kind of a chore compared to the normal levels.
-The "pro" control scheme (jump with the bumpers, use the Yo-Yo with the Right Stick) ended up being a failure in my eyes; i totally get what they were going for and i tried to master them, but it just didn't feel right. Ended up using the "simple" one (jump and yo-yo with the face buttons) but without actually activating it; luckilly the game lets you use both at the same time in case you need the precision of the Pro scheme (which almost never happened in my playthrough)
-I value unique artstyle, but i cannot stand the protag's design. I can't even look at its face, i don't know why but it really bothers me
-The QTEs at the end of each level are not only anticlimactic but it could've been nice if at least there were more than 3 animations for the whole game or if it at least tried to match your button presses. It felt more like an afterthought to add SOMETHING to the end of the stages. Completely unnecesary, adds nothing. And it makes me look at the face of the character even more
-The NPC's that give you a timed challenge, begin the timer inmediately, by the time you are reading the text telling you what you need to do, the time is already ticking. That may sound like a minor thing but drove me up a wall
-The "Ride" controls (an integral part of your moveset) are super counterintuitive. I spent like half the game without understanding how to actually steer the thing
-Very buggy, i've fell through the terrain a lot, at the worst times even
Ok, it seems like i have more gripes than praises for this game, but i ended up liking it a lot once i've come to terms with most of its cons. Once i truly understood how the movement works and what controls to use, i couldn't put it down. So if you go with all of this into consideration, you will enjoy it too.

- On the surface, this doesn't seem like something from the Sonic Mania team at first. But when you're made aware of it, it makes perfect sense. You can see a similar love that went into Penny’s Big Breakaway. Great title knowing this alone.
