I have a bit of time in the game, I have put in a bit of work to achieve what was expected and I can say it's very lack luster. I would understand if this game was in early access, but it isn't supposed to be. Every aspect of the game, whether it's marriage, a career, being a political figure, it's very boring. Driving in the game is absolutely horrible and transitions throughout the map can cause you to be ran over and hurt. I hoped for more from the jump, but overall it didn't deliver.

This is a great game! Others are reporting bugs, but i haven't had any. It has close to controller support. Developer is really helpful and mentioned that switching to "gamepad with camera control" in controller settings on steam will act as a proper controller with correct button prompts. The game is super addicting, and i have never seen a solo developer work so fast on updating their game since MDickie

This is such a weird review for me. Because as this game is right now, I'm not actually sure I would recommend To Pixelia to anyone. And yet here I am, playing it constantly whenever I get the chance because though it's janky in its current state, it fills a niche that I have always wanted to play—so I'm leaving a positive review because it truly is how I feel about it! It's no secret that people are looking for Sims alternatives these days, and while this isn't The Sims, it also provides freedom in a way I think the Sims 4 absolutely does not.
This game is so charming. The world is lovely (and HUGE!), and all of the different shops and jobs are neat. I love running around as a little guy, developing a roster of people I'm flirting with, working my little waiter job, etc. Home decoration is great and I really hope we might get even more to decorate with later on. Though you can get the hang of it pretty quickly, there's also a degree of real challenge to this that again, The Sims 4 just doesn't provide. You have to work for relationships. You have to work A LOT to buy things and make money. And while I could see that being tedious for some people, I really enjoy the grind. Plus, you can change the progression of skills in the settings if the grind isn't for you!
A couple of suggestions I'd have for the game dev, who seems to be paying close attention post-launch:
1.) I do think it would be good to get someone to help out with dialogue (for English specifically, I can't speak for other languages). Some of it is a little difficult to follow. To be clear, I do not fault this dev for English not being his first language at all! And honestly if hiring an editor isn't possible, this is very easy to overlook in my opinion.
2.) The majority of the game is gorgeous, but every so often you get odd "mixel" sprites here and there that don't look as good. Again, this is graphics-based and easy to overlook considering the solid gameplay.
3.) I would personally love to see more social interactions when speaking to/calling other Pixelians. It's fine as is, but it could be extra fun with more.
4.) Bug-squashing. I will admit, this game 100% should have been in early access before it was released, and I'm not entirely sure why this wasn't the case. Either way, it's done now, so getting on bugs as fast as possible is for the best in my opinion. (And to give the dev credit this seems to be happening actively!)
To address the crashing, I haven't had any crashes at all, but I will update my review if that changes. I did have one game-breaking bug where I was hired to clean someone's apartment and was taken to play drums instead. While funny, I wasn't able to complete the quest. This was the only big bug I have encountered however.
Overall, if you know what you're getting (which is a wee bit unpolished but clearly well-loved), you'll have a blast. If you're looking for an objectively complete and ready-to-go game, this won't be for you. I, personally, will be spending the rest of my weekend on this game.

There were game breaking bugs at launch. I was wildly disappointed but the developer moved quickly, listened to feedback, and addressed them incredibly quickly with patches. At this point, the game is excellent, if still a little too grindy (more patches are coming to address this as well from what I read). I love the freedom the game grants you in crafting your own life, creating your own space, and forming your own relationships. It's a 10/10 life sim and knowing how much heart the developer has poured into the game only makes it that much better.

The "Mixed" rating (as of the time of writing this review) is very undeserved. This is a very charming life sim! Do NOT expect the level of polish and the amount of content offered by the likes of The Sims or InZOI, but if you go into it with an open mind and you like the thought of losing yourself in a cute world and having some lighthearted fun, you will have a blast with this game. There is heaps to do as is and the developers are still adding content and are committed to fixing bugs. I highly recommend it!

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE this game, but as everyone has been saying since release it's definitely a "not right now" title. Though I am grateful for the dev hopping into patch fixes so quickly after launch - It really begs the question: did it need to be released this early in its development? Especially if its dealing with bugs, crashes and story progression issues at this magnitude? I’ve ran into about…4 crashes in my 5-hour play-through and that’s a lot considering the kind of game this is – not to mention it overheats my laptop like CRAZY. Not even Sims 4 heats it up like this and I’ve got 100 times the hours on that compared to this one.
Another thing is that the whole game feels…hollow? 5 hours in and it feels like I’m in a no – cheat/mod version of sims, so like BASIC just started playing sims. My pixalian is a painter – tell me why I can’t paint a SINGLE thing until I’m at level 20 in painting?? and THEN I have to register with a faction?? To paint???
I’m supposed to throw money at college and perhaps get a degree and earn better jobs – entry level for a job that requires a diploma? 2800. Work at the butcher’s shop instead? 2300. There's not that much incentive to get a college degree here. Not mention I can only do classes ONCE a day? And a class only takes 30 minutes in game? There's not that much to do in the game other than work, go to class, practice hobbies and do it all over again. Pretty bare bones for a 15 dollar game - right now at least.
Also, the times are weird. Everything closes around 5 - 8 so let’s say your job, like the butcher, keeps you there from 9 AM to 5 PM, well great that’s a good chunk of the day gone, can’t do late night classes at the university so I guess grab some odd jobs after working, which you have to wait 24 hours for a phone call back and now you're starving, but you can’t cook because a kitchen set costs way more than what your making for ONE item(fridge costs about 3000) so you are wasting 100 – 200 dollars on meals to raise your hunger. Each food item costs more than it offers in raising your bar, unless you prefer to eat only desserts?? Why does cheesecake give me 30+ hunger whereas a steak dinner only gives me 24+ hunger??
To Pixelia seems to really want its players to struggle in the city – which is fine, I’m cool with struggle but there feels like there’s no balance. I’m not saying 5 hours in, I need to be a billionaire or anything, but I should have a decent range comfort by now. Why does it take 5 irl hours to get through the starting week? 5 hours in and I’ve only JUST finished two weeks in the game – maybe the crashes had something to do with it? Or maybe because progression is really really slow to cover up what is seemingly an unfinished game. Which sucks because I adore the potential and what could be of this game, but the time it takes to get anywhere or do anything is hurting it.

Cannot recommend the game as is. I bought this under the assumption that it was a fully finished game, as it isn't marked as an early access game. As of right now, the game is unfinished and buggy, and has issues with basic things in the game, like the tutorial quest and basic game functions. Please save your money for something else. I'd be more forgiving of the game, but seeing as it was marketed as a fully finished game and not as an Early Access game, I can't help but feel that I was ripped off.
Hopefully in the future, the game will reach its full potential.
Edit to add: as of May 14th this game is still not marked as an Early Access game. To the developer's credit, they are providing patches and updates, but I still find it very misleading at best that this is marketed as a fully finished game when it very much isn't. Just because you call the initial release of your game version 1.0 doesn't actually make it a full game.

I’m unsure if I would recommend this game because of how it's structured.
The strong points: Good graphics, branching paths and choices, the map is well-made, and there's a lot of cityfolk to interact with.
But what I don’t like: The lack of freedom, the identity crisis and the grinding (Half the gameplay is just watching your character dance to get mood up, the shower minigame clearly shows one can make the mundane fun, Why not more? Like a lot more?)
I don’t really understand what the game wants to be. At the beginning, it introduces a world of wonder, making it seem like you can be whoever you want. (2 to 3 hours in) So I thought, okay is this a life sim? A leisure game?
Well… it’s not.
The game is heavily tied to the main storyline, and a lot of things are locked without any in-game explanation. It leaves you guessing. And when it starts playing like a strict RPG, that confusion turns into frustration. 10 hours in and I figured out whit the help of media how factions work, they was locked behind main story quests. Before then I thought they was side quests and optional.
So what is this really? A weird mix of leisure game, life sim, and RPG but with heavy restrictions, grinding, and mandatory violence and crime. That last part really needs to be emphasized. It’s not just there, it’s required if you want to progress!
It’s like the game tries to blend genres that don’t naturally go together. Leisure games and RPGs pull in opposite directions:
RPGs tend to be quest-heavy, high-difficulty, full of unlocks, and not exactly “cute” or relaxing.
Leisure and life sims are more about freedom, a light atmosphere, and low difficulty — they’re meant to be half-played while chilling.
Both genres are good on their own, but mashed together? It becomes a mess. The restrictiveness of the RPG shines like a beacon, and the softness of the leisure elements just makes it worse. It brings out the worst of both worlds.
I guess that’s what happens if you put a bread inside a hotdog. You just end up with meat juice all over your fingers. Yum.

Hello all,
This is my first and only review......I have read many of the others and I just want to say that this a a great game with a sing;e developer who is addressing all the bugs faster than most. I do not know why they chose full release versus early access but either way, they do not deserve negative reviews while working diligently everyday to addressing all known issues in the game. This game is a one of a kind in its genre and with a little patience, the potential and the ability to replay seems unlimited. I am grateful they added controller use and that they are still continuing to grow the game. even in full release!
