GET THIS GAME!! I started playing West of Loathing not too long before this game, and it has the same charm with new elements! The humor in these games are entirely unrivaled and the clever stories, mini-games, achievements, and vast number of storyline opportunities are just so so fun to play. I get so invested in the small details of the world and my character, and I love how much this game embraces player input and cause and effect. SO FUN.

Inferior to its predecessor but still lots of fun. Can be quite intimidating at times with the sheer amount of side-quests and dialogue, this explains why most large YouTubers and Streamers who enjoyed WOL never played or finished this one. It's a lot more grounded than WOL is, meat is harder to come by and shops are cheaper. Your stats are maxed out at around 15 each so you're unable to turn yourself into some kind of unbalanced monster. Like WOL there's really only 5-6ish quests you need to complete to beat the entire game, with the rest of it being optional filler (the good kind). I hope the next loathing game we see is more akin to WOL than how SOL was portrayed here.

I like this game type, and I loved West of Loathing. But Shadows doesn't add much and I couldn't get invested in the story. The shadow/spooky vibe doesn't grab you like the wild west theme did, and I tired of the repetitive gameplay. I think this format worked really well for one game, but not for a sequal. Play the original, which is awesome. I quit around 50% through.

It's still a good game, but it's certainly lacking some charm that made West of Loathing special. I felt this game to be too linear and the whole chapter sequence makes burnout happen really easily. I quit the game at chapter three and did not return until three years later. It's also much less funnier than WoL. It feels like lot of things going on but also not much is going on at all. The story about shadow is also quite boring.
