DUST, it is what it says, a post apocalyptic role playing game. it's good like REALLY GOOD, my biggest problems is it's supposed to be a RPG but if you want to get anywhere even close to the ending you must have a melee build for how hard it is to fine/supply bullets you would think guns would be powerful but nope I would even argue that unarmed melee is still better then using guns, but apart from my personal problems with the game the biggest thing is the glitchs this game is fool of them, It was actually what made me put the game down for awhile since whenever I would tried to do anything like travel or progress at all the screen would just go black and I would have to close the game this was on my longest running save mind you so all in all would I recommend this game YES......but I wish the developer would show this game more love and up date it on a regular or at least yearly basis

Has a lot of potential, but needs some fine-tuning, expanding and bug fixing. This is primarily a resource management game. Your need to manage food, ammunition, medicine to cure radiation and disease, tools to repair your gear (it breaks quickly, a bit too quick for my liking), and complete missions to get more items and money. It's tough but fair. The gameplay loop is fun and addicting. The combat is simple. Attacks have a chance to hit, enemies can only hit you if you miss an attack, and granades are a rare consumable that deal huge damage and don't allow enemies to hit you even if you miss. Ammunition is rare and expensive, so you'll be mostly using melee to deal with smaller enemies. Save your ammo for tougher fights. There are lots of different kinds of areas to explore, including secret spots that you find by wandering the "harsh deserts" at the edges of the map. The game is unbalanced in some places. In high level areas, the hit chance is stupidly low, about 35%, and that's if you have a good build. Since you can only heal outside of combat, you MUST take the high HP classes, otherwise you simply can't do late game content. There are lots of weapons, but very few are worth using. Armor rating is too important. The special suits that make you immune to disease or electricity are rarer than combat armor, but since they only have about 3 armor rating compared to the 8 of combat armor, they're only useful for selling. And if you get the quest to find a plutonium charge, I wish you luck. You'd sooner win the lottery than find that thing. But the worst part is a game-breaking bug found in one of the dungeons, "Robotron". If you're unlucky, the game black screens when you go fight the boss and you become softlocked with no other choice but to suicide and start again. This is especially frustrating because it's a late game area, so you've already spent more than a few hundred days surviving just to get there. Despite the flaws, it's an enjoyable experience. 6/10 as it is. Like I said, it has lots of potential for improvement, the base for a good game is there. I hope the developer releases some new content and fixes the bugs.

Alright. DUST - A Post Apocalyptic RPG is a somewhat addictive but also very difficult A/B decision RPG. Meaning, there are always two choices to make with every encounter, be it an enemy, a door, gear you find, and so on. I read in the dev's last update that there is an actual ending to the game. Not sure if there actually is, but I'm pretty positive it will take a player quite a while to accomplish that based on the achievements list. There is quite a bit of fun to be had in this game, but it also is pretty limited. So, this is basically a text adventure/choose your own adventure style RPG. Consider each screen to be an encounter, and as mentioned, every encounter has a pair of options to choose from. With combat, it is simple fight or flight. If you elect to fight, you have two choices for weapons (main weapon, sidearm). Each has a percentage assigned to it each round as your hit chance. The number changes every round. Each time you miss, the enemy gets an opportunity to attack, but your attack percentage increases until you do hit the enemy, then it will generally drop back down. Rinse and repeat. This is affected by your stats. You begin with a pair of preset characters to choose from during character selection, with more unlocked as you hit certain milestones in the game. Generally, those milestones are how many days you survive and how many quests you complete. You can tweak the stats of your chosen character a little bit to suit a specific playstyle. For example, perhaps you would rather run from every enemy but are really good at hacking and picking locks. Or perhaps you prefer to specialize in melee or gun combat and also like kicking open doors. You can, to a limited extent, make that happen. You begin in 'The Bunker' with a couple bucks to spend on gear and a beginning quest, which is always a fetch quest. Maybe it's the circuit board from a robot. Maybe it is a roll of toilet paper. There doesn't seem to be a huge variety of these Bunker quests, but they get you going. As you travel and as you fight, in addition to hit points, you also have radiation and virus meters. If they max out, you will die. And the simple act of traveling will generally increase these as well. However, you also have a resistance rating against each, which are treated as character skills. Each time you level up, you get to choose one of two random options offered for skills to increase. Which might be said resistances, might be weapon related skills, speech skills, etc... So anyway, as you travel, you will have the opportunity to explore various locations, which range from stores and diners to airports to broke down vehicles, and so on. Each will either offer a string of encounters which range from loot containers to enemies; or the place will already have been looted. This all is completely random. If you clear a place out, you will generally be given the option to camp there. Where you can rest to regain health at the expense of radiation exposure and the use of rations. Speaking of rations, you will also need to constantly be gathering those as well in order to survive. Beyond random locations, there are also communities all around the map which you will travel to. Arriving at one, you automatically get to visit a doctor who will heal you up completely, for free. Each will have some form of trader, using different forms of currency: actual money, fuel, rations, information. You'll have to balance need vs want here. You need rations, but maybe you need ammo more. Or medkits. Or anti-radiation pills. There is a layer of strategy involved in trading. In addition to all that, communities also offer quests, which may be fetch quests, or they might be assassinations. Where you find somebody specific and, well, you know. For which they will pay you in whatever currency they use. Information takes the form of books, hacked data, newspapers, and so on. This is exclusively trade material for some communities or can be turned in at The Bunker for bonus quest rewards. As mentioned briefly, outside of the set communities, everything happens randomly in this game. RNG is the primary gameplay mechanic. Although, as you play more, you do get a better sense for how to work with this to maximize your results and prolong your life. But all things must come to an end, and you will die eventually. You get two free deaths per run, where someone from the nearest community finds you and brings you to their medic to heal you up. Third death is permanent though. At that point, you can begin a new character with whatever cash you had left with your last character. And of course, depending on your progression in your last life, you may have new characters unlocked. And that is the game, more or less. The product page says, "The game receives constant updates with new content, expansions, big fixes and balance and it’s easy to get in contact with the developer.". Best I can tell, it's received two total content updates. Which is not what I would characterize as "constant updates". The last one was four months ago, so that does suggest the dev is still around, but maybe she or he should adjust the description on the product page a bit. The game does seem feature complete as is, but it also could definitely use additional encounters, enemies, and locations. Couple quick notes: we had an internet outage while I was playing this, as a result of a construction crew severing one of the fiber cables next to a highway near here, and so I do have about two more hours of gametime than whatever it says. And no screenshots are available with this game unfortunately. The game does not support that Steam function. Anyway, I do think the game has enough content to justify the base price, although it is certainly better had on sale. I've had some fun with it for sure, although I do also think it really needs more content to continue to be engaging. Give it a look if you enjoy challenging digital choose your own adventure style RPGs.
