Quickly opens up into a tightly made arcade shooter, clearly shows buckets of care and effort, and has a unique and engaging premise and presentation. Easy recommend, hope this game gets the attention it deserves!

I had a great time with Soul King. The gameplay loop of always going forwards while winding round the levels and taking out enemies as soon as possible just works super well.
It makes brilliant use out of "Backpack reloading" where when you run out of ammo you swap to your next weapon and keep firing. This makes you use all your weapons but causes little to no downtime, its great.
There's a good amount of weapon and ability variety that you unlock throughout the story which keeps things fresh. And the story is surprisingly good and very earnest
I keep coming back to it for the occasional rerun through a level or two
Can you believe that other games waste their time with being allowed to look up and down, crazy talk.

Looking for an ethereal retro fps gem? There's a lot of charm to the system in Soul King. The characters are well thought out with their own personalities adding uniqueness to each dreamscape. The hub space pulls this experience together. It's one of those games where I'll say "I'll just play one more" and then proceed to play three more. Most of my deaths were just from instinctively holding Shift + W or relying too much on strafing rather than aiming. While sprinting you cannot switch weapons. Which makes sense, but it might feel more satisfying to have weapon switches act as a sprint cancel. I wish most weapon reloads were just half a second faster, but that's largely from my struggle to master the system at work here. How, when, and why you switch to a weapon is how you'll improve each stage. There's good inventory management to unlock and pick a loadout that suits your play style. In game leader board is very nice and there's a small enough player base that you could actually work to get a top score! I was very impressed with how well the aesthetics of its art, story, and system worked together in this game. Had a lot of fun with Soul King!

Really fun, run and gun, simple doom-like. Propelled forward by the whispering wall, you don't have time to line up every perfect shot, but sometimes you just have to gloat on a pile of your dead enemies for the bonus points :P.
Surprised by the depth of the narrative already. People become guns!
