Screw 2K for making you pay $70 every year just to be able to play online.

Game was fun on launch but since they shutdown the servers, this game is striaght buns. No MyTeam, no MyCareer... This is a total scam and I do not know how they keep getting away with this. Paying 60$ for the same game every year. And I didn't even talk about the poor optimization, when the game would just straight up keep crashing or would slow down until it was unplayable. 2k get your shit together and make a decent game for once.

Stupid me for wasting a significant amount of money so I could temporarily play a game that would shut its servers down and eliminate the only game mode I really cared. At least I'll never buy a 2K game again.

NBA 2K23 stands out as one of the most refined and engaging basketball simulations in the series, skillfully blending realistic gameplay improvements with nostalgic content to create a well-rounded experience for fans of all kinds. On the gameplay front, the introduction of the Adrenaline Boost system revolutionizes stamina management by dividing it into three distinct segments, effectively discouraging repetitive dribble spamming and encouraging smarter, team-oriented play. This adds an extra layer of strategy to pacing and decision-making. The revamped Pro Stick controls, alongside more nuanced shooting mechanics and expanded badge customization, provide players with a fresh, dynamic feel on offense. Defensively, the AI has seen improvements as well, displaying smarter rotations, better help defense, and more realistic contesting, although occasional moments of AI hesitation, especially during pick-and-roll plays, remind players there’s still room for growth.
Visually, NBA 2K23 impresses with next-generation fidelity—player models are detailed and lifelike, lighting and shadows create a polished atmosphere, and broadcast-style overlays enhance the immersion, particularly in The City hub. Animations throughout the game feel smooth and expressive, from signature dribbles to impactful finishes at the rim. While minor frame drops and stutters can appear during busy moments in the hub world, overall performance remains solid on current hardware.
Mode-wise, NBA 2K23 shines with the introduction of MyNBA Eras, a standout feature that transports players through different historical periods of the NBA complete with authentic rosters, rules, and presentation styles. This mode serves as a compelling playground for basketball history enthusiasts. The return of The Jordan Challenge adds another layer of nostalgia, allowing players to relive iconic Michael Jordan moments enhanced by era-specific filters and cinematic presentation. Meanwhile, MyCareer continues its evolution, offering a more compact and accessible The City environment filled with layered missions and fast travel options. Though immersive, the narrative-driven approach can sometimes feel intrusive, bogging down the gameplay with fetch quests and cutscenes that don’t appeal to everyone.
MyTeam remains content-rich and addictive but is also notable for its grind-heavy progression and aggressive microtransaction model. While new modes like Triple Threat and revamped contracts add variety, the persistent pay-to-win perception and frequent meta shifts continue to frustrate many players.
Community responses reflect this mixture of praise and criticism. Many applaud the game’s realistic gameplay improvements and the depth offered by the era modes, while others express frustration with occasional sluggish movement, defensive AI quirks, and the demanding shot timing mechanics. Performance issues are rare but can surface during intense moments in The City, though most users enjoy a steady 60 frames per second on modern consoles and PC.
In conclusion, NBA 2K23 represents a significant step forward for the franchise, delivering sharper, smarter gameplay paired with a broad variety of modes that cater to simulation purists, history buffs, and career-driven players alike. While microtransactions and some narrative-heavy elements may detract from the experience for some, the game’s overall polish, depth, and authenticity make it arguably the best NBA 2K installment yet, solidifying its place as a must-play for basketball fans seeking both challenge and nostalgia.

I'm on year ten in this game....slowly it takes the time of my life away, like a hourglass, just falling away as I aimlessly try to make the New York Knicks relevant as I pretend I'm the god damn best general Manager of all-time. It's fun, easy to get into, and it's a game you can get lost in.
