As always, the music and the art are quite impressive. The amount of POV head-hopping seems to get worse though. The last chapter did moved me a bit. The core message is sound. The plot development is not.
For the first 90% of the story, I was about to give this a negative review. This is what will happen if you take Fault series' deep and mature world and put in a insufferable angstly puberty main character who couldn't read the air at all. The feeling of reading through the POV character doesn't match the overall atmosphere, and the character growth doesn't make much sense. There are segments here and there that seem like they're trying to bring on the series' signature emotional weight, but that didn't land well here.
This is way too cinematic, too much animation, too many characters, for such a short plot. Sure, I love the worldbuilding of the Fault series, but this is a bit too much worldbuilding for the size of this particular story.
... or maybe worldbuilding is the main point of this prequel. I don't know.
