From what I have played of this game, it takes the setting of Kingdoms Rush and throws in the story and what I can only assume to be the origins of the conflict on the Tower Defense games.
it has Turn Based Strategy, branching paths for chances at random encounters and a good amount of RNG.

Most of the negative reviews are mad that this isn't another tower defense game. If you're looking for a tower defense game, this obviously isn't one. It's a pretty good Tactics/roguelite game. Pretty much all of the available party members are capable of standing out in combat, and the combat encounters in every zone are different enough to keep things from getting repetitive, but I wish it was longer.
There are also a lot of situations where a single bad dice roll or damage RNG can ruin the whole run. I guess that's not unexpected from roguelikes/roguelites though.
