I was very disturbed by Steven. Please never show me Steven or his rat-loving father ever again. Loved everything else in this game! Combat is very fast paced, so it took a minute to adjust. After I remembered more words, it became easier to form new battle tactics. I REALLY love the art style and music. Each area has unique music, but they all share a similar undertone. I really appreciate that sort of thing; its like the game's personal anthem that follows you everywhere. The dialogue is silly and the voice acting is actually pretty good. Too good...Steven. He haunts my dreams. His face lurks in the shadows of my home. I hear his wheezing breath around the corner as he whispers, "..cards?" Behind his whispers, a faint beat-boxing tune.

Although I didn't last long (lack of vocabulary and patience), this is a very original and distinctive game. I think it will be very good for lovers of dictionaries and dungeon crawlers.

Demo shows promise but atmosphere is obliterated after that. Instead of exploring gloomy dungeons the scenery changes to an open world sewer level populated by rat people with Australian accents. The art on them is bad, compared to the crypt master. The music in this area is bad. It also plays in the dungeon areas and ruins atmosphere. So OK, I turn the music off and continue because the demo made a good impression on me and I still wanted to play that game. Also decided to switch enemy encounters to turn based. This was when I could not continue because the turn based mode is not adequate. It tries to integrate turn based mode with real time mode so you have to wait for your turn to end. With that out the way I really wanted this game to work. The demo was good but the enemy encounters are clumsy and in my opinion neither option works (real time or turn based).

Guess the letter, guess the riddle, guess the word - The Videogame. Not worth the $27.21 I spent, could've spent it on Uber eats instead.

A rather fun game that has some issues. It's a first person dungeon crawler with a four person party, but the dungeon crawling is not quite the point of the game. The game definitely has innovative elements. It's essentially a game about guessing words to unlock new skills and memories. At all times each member of your party has their next skill word to be guessed. Killing enemies, solving puzzles, opening chests, and such will award you letters and they populate the blank words hangman-style filling in letters. At any time you can guess the word, and if right you are rewarded and it moves to the next word. In combat you have to type out the name of your skill to execute it and it's a frantic rush of typing things as fast as you can while remembering what each skill word does. What really sells the game is the narrator, the cryptmaster, who responds to everything you say. He will mock you, assist you, be confused, and all sorts of reactions to the words you blurt out as you try various guesses. The dialogue is routinely hilarious and the story is a parody half the time. You can give one word queries to NPCs and they have a wide range of terms they will respond to as well. The problem is the game part of this game, namely the RPG elements. The combat system has some innovative quirks but has serious balancing issues. You end up with maybe 20 to 30 skills per character but they are not in any way created equal. About 20% of them you will use all the time, 40% of them you will never use ever, and the other 40% are extremely situational. Many skills are just inferior to others. Do you want to deal 2 damage, or do you want to deal 2 damage while dealing one to yourself? You would think the skills unlock in progressive power but that doesn't seem to be the case either. Character word progression is also locked by your progress through the game, which seems fine until the late game. The game is suddenly over and you're nowhere near to finishing out each character's word chart...and you don't even appear to need to. Also rewards are kinda off. You get a ton of letter rewards that are just wasted on your current word until you guess. Maybe things could have carried over to future words. Also the game does not track what letters a word cannot contain based on letter rewards you've already gotten, which is just as important as the letters you've filled in. The balance is just off. It's not like it ruins the game or anything, just that the combat part of the game is weak. Overall the game is enjoyable and you certainly haven't played something like it before.

The word scramble + dungeon crawler concept is great on paper, but the novelty wears off quickly—and once it does, the combat system’s lack of depth starts to show. I guess it’s the kind of game that works quite well for streaming.

Very fun game, I would recommend it. For me the pros and cons would be; pros: - I love the sarcastic nercomancer and finding out new words he'd react to (outside of the normal game words) also with other characters - very nice if you like word guessing games combat is fun and engaging cons: - At least in the beginning it feels like when your low on health or souls, the best thing to do is just die? I'm not sure if I am missing something but that sometimes feels wonky. -The way your getting letters and words (if your not perfect and getting all the chests right) can have you starting out with some characters being useless for a while. which comes back to my first con. some fights you just cant do it better then you are doing because of your soulcount you cant heal and are just on a downards spiral to death even if you try to optimize your free spells.

This game is a heck of a lot of fun. It's very funny scrabble with a good story line. I'm god awful with scrabble but thankfully I'm a sucker for fishing and the fights are fun. The cryptmaster also hates chickens and makes a sound of disgust every time you pass one which is just a super silly yet fun interaction. I may or may not intentionally walk by chickens to annoy him.

I'm one hour in and it's my favorite hour in video gaming in a long time. Brilliant, personality-filled writing, character design, and voice acting. Completely novel game design that assimilates and comments on timeworn video game tropes while making them new again. This is the real deal. I want these developers to make 20 more games yesterday. It's so good that it's inspiring me to think about making my own game. I'm sad that it's been out a year and didn't have Balatro- or Blue Prince-style success. You can see from the reviews that everyone who plays it loves it, but not enough people have played it. Don't miss out on this one.

this game is an absolute vibe... something like: Wizardry Teaches Typing, feat. Wordle. It also involves skulls asking you clever riddles, fishing, squashing cave bugs, toad kings looking for love, lore, etc. Just a very inspired, unique game. If you have fun typing you'll enjoy the real-time combat, but there is a turn-based mode that probably allows for better planning (since some commands for your four heroes enhance other commands for others, etc). Full of humor and charm. Most fun I've had with my keyboard since The Typing Of The Dead.
