Basically gives you a taste of the mobile suit Gundam experience every mecha enjoyer yearns for. I hope for this game to continue further in development, since there is massive potential.

Absolutely phenomenal game. As someone who is a huge mech fan and has played other VR mech games like Iron Rebellion, BIG SHOTS, and Vox Machinae, I can confidently say I think this game does VR mech gaming the best. As others have said, this is basically Armored Core in VR. It has the fast paced action of armored core while delivering in it the form of VR and it does it wonderfully. I bought this game on sale but i'd recommend it at full price too. But the game does go on sale every now and then so I suggest picking it up the moment it does. If you're looking for a fast paced VR mech game, give this one a shot.

I don't often write reviews and I've got less than an hour of playtime but from what I played so far I can say that this type of piloting in vr is exactly what I wanted out of vr mech game. Its very reminiscent of the Armored Core games in terms of gameplay and even has similar controls despite being played in through a different medium. I love how action packed the game feels. It honestly feels like I'm actually piloting a Gundam or an Armored Core. The soundtrack I'd say is also very reminiscent of Armored Core as well and it fits really well, I haven't heard a stand out track yet in my limited playtime though. due to its simple visuals you don't really experience any visual issues or frame drops so it makes gameplay super smooth. All in all if you like Armored Core and have vr I'd recommend this as a purchase. Will Probably update this review with improves and the such when I have more hours in game.

This is the kind of single player mech piloting experience I wanted on VR! Despite the graphics, there is an assortment of weapon and mechs for you to master, and it isn't easy!

Once you learn and spend the time it takes to get used to the controls and adjust them in the game options the game starts to feel a lot better and more playable. The controls and interface could be more refined as the hands on the joysticks do not follow your physical hands/controllers, you dont move them up to turn the joysticks up or down you just kinda twist your hand controllers, it took a while for me to understand that one. Kind of bare bones but it is in fact Armored Core Clone in VR. As far as the controls go I would make it so only the left joystick flicking up or down strafes in that direction, and the right joystick can handle vertical movement with the boosters turned on. Also more buttons and switches in the cockpit, clicky cockpits are amazing to play with in VR, VTOLVR is a good example of simple button layouts in the cockpit adding a fair amount of depth and control over your vehicle. I would rate this game about 6.5/10 as it is definitely worth the price and a play through if you like Mech games like Armored Core/Gundam/Battletech but there is a lot of room for growth as well. The suit and weapon designs could be more appealing, the English translation needs work but is very appreciated and more or less gets the point across, and the HP balance of the non Armored Doll enemies seeks a bit tanky for cheaper mass produced machines. The maps are pretty barren and generic but serve their purpose. I would love to see a sequel to this that is more refined.

After the Quest 2 Controller fix update, this is officially the best VR mech game out of all I've tried, and I've tried almost all. This game alone can be the reason for mech game fans to pick up VR headset. Front mission vibe with Armored core alike mechanics. Hopefully more to be added, but getting the basics this right on release is very promising. I'll edit as I play but at the moment I want in future: Mod support for maps, scenarios, mech. Because of single Dev and basics are so well done, I can see many participating in their own takes and expand like contractors.

Arms Doll is an interesting take on mech piloting. I'm personally a huge fan of Gundam, Steel Battalion, and other robot games like Robot Alchemic Drive, so as soon as I saw the store page for this game, I was immediately interested in it. This game does a few things very well, and others somewhat not as well, which I'll list below: Good

Captures the feeling of games like Steel Battalion well. The cockpit view is simple, but effective enough to make you feel like you're actually piloting a mecha.
Soundtrack - the music in this game is energetic and fits well with the sense of piloting a robot in a warzone.
Ambition for a small project - this game is from a single developer: Mumyou Tsujigiri, and you can tell that the creator is a big fan of mecha.
Pacing - the game is broken down into smaller levels that take about 3-4 minutes per sortie, so it's careful as to not overwhelm you with excessively long missions in VR.
The game's tutorial is great at easing you into the controls, as they are very far from "standard" VR controls.
Not so good

The controls, while difficult to learn at first, are easy enough to grasp with a bit of play time. However, my main complaint (when using the Index controllers) is that tracking of where your hands are gripping was lost very easily, meaning I would lose control of firing my weapon/turning/boosting.
Sound design - there are some definite tweaks that can be made to the sound effects in game. In mission 3, the flying mecha use what seem to be shotguns, and the sound effect was loud enough to make me think something had hit my house outside of the game.
Graphics - I feel bad complaining about this again due to this being a passion project and because environment simplicity in VR can be a wonderful thing to prevent motion sickness, but the game feels very basic looking outside of this.
Tsujigiri, I honestly hope that you can continue with projects like this, as this is the core type of game I've wanted to play in VR for the longest time, and is very cool for your first released game. I purchased the game for 10% off, and I would recommend it at this price, or at a discount if you: [olist]
Want to get your heart racing while piloting a mecha from the comfort of your chair.
Enjoy games like Armored Core, Robot Alchemic Drive, or Steel Battalion - any mecha game that has non-standard controls.
