It's alright. It shines (not too brightly, but brightly enough) once you get the hang of it, but there's lots of tiny bits of balance that make the overall experience less rewarding than what it could be. It's a fairly basic Classicvania, with a few setpieces and bit of keyhunting within screens to spice things up, but at its core it's just the same old "get from point A to point B while getting harassed by enemies" of retro games. Fixed-arc platforming feels stiff, but level design is forgiving to account for it. Most enemies are easy and getting the right positioning isn't hard, with the subweapons being OP if you have the mana to spare. A couple instances of positioning making things harder, but mostly you can eventually adapt to the intended strategy. The bosses are where the game relatively underdelivers. This is a shame because individual attacks are well thought out, but the pacing ends up making passing or failing often less of a skill or even knowledge check and more of just getting the right RNG. There are some completely fair bosses, but of the handful there's enough of them which either can chain certain attacks into nearly guaranteed damage or have at least one attack which lacks a good telegraph, making the deaths feel cheap. And because the life pool is low, this means certain areas you'll have to pass through several times, making their okay but not stellar design feel annoying with the flaws getting more apparent.
