So the game lives up the byline I been seeing (Pokemon but for adults). Which way the perspective during battles and turn based combat is their but that's kind where it stops. The game has that early Y2K Adult Swim humor and I get for some it can be grating. Personally it didn't bother me and kinda just got lost in the grind. Decided to play it on a normal difficulty and if you don't watch yourself you will get got but that's okay. On easy seems like you can just breeze through it if that's what you want but honestly it's a fun side game to grind through when you are watching something online. Over a fun time to enjoy and just grind if that's something you enjoy.

The Edge of Allegoria is exactly why I love indie games! The game-play is incredibly well balanced. Every fight feels fair but challenging, and there's just the right mix of strategy and action to keep things exciting. I am still playing but so far, never felt overpowered, and never felt stuck. There’s a huge variety of items to discover and play around with, which makes experimenting a lot of fun. The retro feel; art, music, and atmosphere are very well done, you can really feel the passion the dev poured into this. If you're a fan of well-crafted retro indie experiences, don’t sleep on this one!

I feel like I was an idiot for believing the 90% positive rating, or by being fooled by the "not your mother's pokemon!" advertising. Make no mistake: this game might have good gameplay, but the writing is some of the most unfunny garbage I've ever had the displeasure of reading. Apparently, the devs think that swearing for swearing's sake is enough to make a game funny. There's no jokes. There's no actual humor. The humor is "haha we said the fuck word in a game that looks like Pokémon!" That's it. Those are all the jokes. I had to put the game down after 20 minutes because not only is it not funny, it's actively grating. I don't have an issue with swearing, but this feels like a millennial who never grew up past 12 got their hands on RPG Maker and said "let's write all the bad words we can think of!" It reminds me of that video of those kids skateboarding and one trips on a rock and the cameraman keeps calling it a "damn-ass rock." It feels like a child who just discovered swearing and doesn't really know how to, yet, but by swearing alone, it makes them the coolest kid in the cul-de-sac. HEAVY Not Recommended from me.
An unhinged Canadian RPG where axolotls are deadly, poutine might save your life, and mimics are basically a hate crime.
If you're a Pokemon fan with a love for morbid gags, or a Doom & Destiny nostalgic craving more pixelated chaos, this one’s for you. The Edge of Allegoria is a crude, absurd, and oddly charming 20-hours game if you can overlook some jokes that feel ripped from a middle school lunch table. Combat is surprisingly solid, with plenty of viable playstyles to experiment with, though some don’t hit their stride until mid-to-late game. Weapons are fun, varied, and often hilarious (some are solid 10/10s on both form and function). Add fast travel once you’ve visited main spots, a full cast of quirky yet random characters, and enough gear to keep stat-junkies happy, and you've got a lot going on under the chaos. The pixel art is charming and leans into the game’s weird energy, while the soundtrack and pacing support the narrative enough to make the journey feel coherent despite its absolute nonsense. Most achievements are fun to pursue and gently guide you toward side quests, secrets, and bosses. The gameplay avoids making money a grindy chore by providing enough loot to accumulate a small fortune and despite the overall nonsense, the ending is satisfying enough to cap the ride with a smirk. But let’s talk cons, because yes, they’re loud. The humor is very juvenile. If you're easily offended by sex, drug, or toilet jokes, this game will not win you over (and honestly, shouldn't try to). Some gags land; others land like a dead fish in a lunchbox. The random encounter rate is also all over the place: relentless at first, then almost nonexistent later, which can make the midgame a slog and late-game achievements hunting frustrating. Also, mimics are everywhere. No, really. You’ll be terrified to open chests for most of the game. There's an achievement for killing 75 of them, and that still felt low. There’s little in the way of guides, though the Steam forums and Discord are filled with helpful players (check the pinned bestiary doc in the Discord for completionists). On that note, be warned: grinding for levels is NOT how you gain power. Enemy difficulty is locked based on your level when you first enter a zone, so overleveling too early just makes life harder, believe me. On the opposite, for players prefering harder combats, there is a mid-game option to reset and upscale enemy zones (which is a nice bonus for those who enjoy punishment). In short: this is a game for RPG fans who don’t mind crude jokes and chaotic design. It reminded me of Doom & Destiny, only with more poutine and fewer filters. You’ll laugh, you’ll groan, you’ll punch a mimic in the face. But if you embrace the mess, there’s a surprisingly fun, creative, and rewarding adventure here. Just don’t take it too seriously and absolutely DON'T grind levels if you enjoy living.
