Tor-tor cubes is an interesting take on the breakout genre. I liked the clean cut graphic, the simple levels and a couple of original power-ups/brick types; though, most are standard fare that include Fireball (usually found within certain brick types), Laser (lasts for about 15 seconds and can destroy lots of bricks), Sticky Paddle, Grow Paddle, Shrink Paddle, Revive Ball, Split Balls (x3), Speed Up, Slow Down, Extra Life as well as a few different brick types such as bomb bricks that destroy the surrounding bricks when hit, cage bricks that usually contain a fireball that destroys all bricks in it's path once freed from the cage, until it fizzles out after about 15 seconds. All power ups are limited with respect to time, so are not permanent during the level you are playing on.
What really spoiled the game for me was that the whole game only took 34 minutes to complete and in the middle of that I took a short break, leaving the game running, to make a sandwich and drink; so, the game play effectively lasts more like 25 minutes at the most; (unless you are abysmal at playing breakout games). Once all levels are unlocked you can re-play any of them in any order.
Basically you get ten levels to play with (yes! that's all); that's less than what you used to get in a free 1 hour demo of any commercial breakout when they were popular 15-20 years ago.
I think the full price of £15.49 is absolutely scandalous; thankfully I bought it while it was on a 90% off sale; this seems like a tactic I've seen in many of these ultra short games on Steam to make you think you are grabing a bargain, but in reality, the inflated price is just a 'draw-in' to get you to buy the game when it's 90% off. Still, even buying it at the 90% off price of £1.54, I still feel vaguely cheated. In my opinion it's not even worth that despite it's good looks and short but decent game play.
The only thing that could redeem this game would be if the developer gave the game away free, or, better still, added another forty or so levels to the game and dropped the price to a more reasonable amount that would compete with similar breakouts. At this time you can get far better commercial and free breakouts on Steam or elsewhere; for example, Grey Cubes includes 60 levels, has decent breakout game play and even looks decent, and at only £0.79 HERE it's a bargain. DX-Ball 2: Deluxe 20th Anniversary Edition with updated graphics and over 400 hundred levels to beat is also a bargain at £5.19 HERE (you can get the original DX-Ball free HERE) and one of my favourite series the Actionball collection HERE , (containing Action Ball 1 & 2 with at least 300 to 400 levels is only £10.38 (you'll find non Steam versions free on some free game sites). PowBall Renaissance is only £3.99 HERE; it's the follow up to PowBall (available from Caiman's HERE for free) and a circular 3D breakout called Anoix is free HERE on Steam. There's are lots more on Steam such as the excellent Shatter HERE for only £1.69 (I'm sure it cost a lot more when I bought it on release) and the brilliant 3D breakout Caromble HERE that only costs £9.99 and is still being developed under the Early Access banner (it's a very small development team who have been work part-time virtually every Friday on improvements for several years now and continue to add more). You can also get all four of the Ricochet series e.g. the last one released called Ricochet Infinity (that was removed from Steam some years ago) and access to tens of thousands of custom made levels for the game free, now that the series is considered Abandonware; you can find a thread I posted in the game giveaway forums HERE that links to all four games and the site that hosts the tens of thousands of free levels (downloaded as level sets up to 200 in a set).
Also free and one of my top ten favourite breakouts (it used to be shareware and originally cost $19.99 before the financial crisis back in 2008) is a game called Breakquest. If you go to the developers site you can download it free and activate it with the registration code he's provided via a thread I created some time ago HERE. You'll find almost 190 2d & 3D breakouts HERE and HERE for example the follow up to Beat Ball 2 HERE that, in my opinion are better game play wise than Tot Tor Cubes.
I'd dearly love to give this game a thumbs up for it's classic breakout and arkanoid features, but the usual price, which is higher than every other breakout available on Steam (at least all of the ones I'm familiar with, forces me to give this a thumbs down. If the developer were to add a significant number of extra levels I'd be happy to change this to a thumbs up because I did enjoy playing those few levels provided. It's just not worth the asking price, either full or discounted.
I'm really disappointed at it ending so quickly.

i love this game but there's no ESC menu or exit button. to exit i have to hit the windows logo key look for the game in the task bar run over it and click on the red X witch is ok but for someone who's not that good at computers might not know this way to close the game.
