It's a really fun game, but it does get a little too hard at some point

Shockingly restrictive for a "relaxing" puzzle game. No variation in solution. Either you have the exact weight and the exact right angles and the exact right ratio of materials to price or the entire thing collapses with no explanation. There were many times I tried to solve the puzzle nearly identical to the ones in the hints to no avail. And only after making a perfect match did they work. Zero creative freedom. I'd get if this was supposed to be a genuine engineering program where there isn't room for error, but this is a puzzle game. It's not that deep.

Terrible game, the help button at the top shows false ways to build that do not work. I follow perfectly but mine never works yet it does in the help video

Poly Bridge 3 is the latest installment in the beloved bridge-building simulator series developed by Dry Cactus, and it builds upon the strong foundation of its predecessors while introducing new mechanics, enhanced graphics, and a fresh wave of creative challenges. At its core, Poly Bridge 3 remains a puzzle game that brilliantly combines physics-based engineering with lighthearted humor and a charming visual style. The game invites players to take on the role of an engineer tasked with constructing functional bridges that can support various vehicles, from compact cars to lumbering trucks, all while contending with a range of environmental factors and budgetary constraints.
One of the standout features of Poly Bridge 3 is the way it balances accessibility with complexity. The game starts with simple, intuitive levels that serve as an excellent tutorial to introduce the basic mechanics of bridge construction, such as the importance of tension and compression, strategic placement of supports, and the trade-offs between different materials. As players progress, the challenges ramp up significantly, requiring more intricate designs, clever use of hydraulics, and precise timing to accommodate moving parts like drawbridges or suspension cables. The physics engine is impressively accurate and consistent, making the experience feel grounded and satisfying; seeing your bridge wobble, shake, and ultimately hold or collapse under stress is a core source of joy and frustration alike.
Visually, Poly Bridge 3 takes advantage of modern hardware to deliver polished, vibrant graphics that maintain the series’ signature low-poly aesthetic while adding more detail, smoother animations, and dynamic lighting effects. The environments are varied and beautifully designed, ranging from sunny coastal roads to foggy mountain passes and bustling industrial zones. These diverse settings not only add visual interest but also introduce unique gameplay elements such as changing weather conditions or tidal water levels that influence how bridges must be built. The soothing soundtrack and gentle sound effects complement the visual style perfectly, creating an atmosphere that is both relaxing and engaging, even when tackling the most mind-bending puzzles.
The game shines in its level design and progression system. Over hundreds of levels, Poly Bridge 3 introduces new mechanics at a thoughtful pace, encouraging players to experiment and iterate on their designs. The introduction of hydraulics, in particular, opens up a new realm of possibilities and creativity, allowing for the construction of movable bridges and other engineering marvels. Players are often given multiple objectives to meet, such as minimizing cost while maintaining structural integrity or ensuring that certain vehicles can cross safely within a time limit. This layered approach to challenges keeps the gameplay fresh and caters to a wide range of player styles, from casual builders who enjoy creative freedom to more hardcore engineers chasing optimal efficiency.
Another major strength of Poly Bridge 3 is its robust sandbox mode and community integration. The sandbox allows players to build without constraints, testing wild designs or perfecting complex contraptions. More importantly, the game continues to foster an active and creative community through the Steam Workshop, where players share custom levels, challenge maps, and innovative bridge blueprints. This vibrant user-generated content significantly extends the game’s lifespan and provides an endless supply of fresh challenges and inspiration. For players who enjoy creativity and sharing, this community aspect is invaluable.
Despite its many strengths, Poly Bridge 3 does present a few minor drawbacks. Some of the later levels can feel frustratingly difficult, requiring trial-and-error and precise engineering that may deter more casual players. While the game’s physics is largely consistent, there are occasional moments where unpredictable interactions or quirks in the simulation can lead to unexpected bridge failures. Additionally, the game’s UI, while largely intuitive, can sometimes feel cluttered or overwhelming when managing complex builds with multiple moving parts. However, these issues are relatively minor compared to the overall polish and depth the game offers.
In conclusion, Poly Bridge 3 is a stellar addition to the series that excels in combining accessible yet deep gameplay, charming presentation, and a thriving community. It continues to capture the magic of bridge-building simulations by encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and persistence. Whether you are a longtime fan of the franchise or new to engineering puzzles, Poly Bridge 3 delivers an enriching and entertaining experience that is as satisfying as it is challenging. It’s a thoughtfully designed game that not only tests your technical skills but also celebrates the joy of creation, making it a must-play for puzzle enthusiasts and creative minds alike.
