The level design feels unengaging due to slow-moving elements and uninteresting platform mechanics, like moving platforms that lack variety or excitement. Levels fail to maintain momentum, which can cause players to lose interest. Punishing mechanics, like falling into a lower area, further frustrate rather than challenge players.
Suggestion: Introduce more dynamic elements, such as faster-moving platforms, environmental hazards, or unique interactions.
Level 19 is particularly punishing because the player mechanics actively work against progression, creating an unfair difficulty spike.
The drawn line mechanic feels visually and mechanically clunky, with two-way collision adding unnecessary frustration. Visual cues for paths or hidden areas are lacking, leaving players uncertain about where they can go safely.
The auto-climb feature often causes players to climb into undesirable areas, breaking the flow. If climbing is a core mechanic, allowing the character to climb up or control direction would improve agency.
Suggestion: Refine the climbing system to give players more control. For instance, allow manual climbing mechanics (similar to Celeste) and ensure the system feels intentional, not accidental.
The soundtrack is underwhelming and lacks the dynamic qualities needed to complement gameplay. Dialogue delivery feels dull and uninspired.
Incorporate a more dynamic soundtrack that changes based on gameplay intensity or player progress. Add emotion to dialogue through better pacing and tone.
The story struggles to connect due to the unlikable protagonist and weak character dynamics.
The kid’s ungrateful attitude makes it difficult to sympathize with them, which undermines the emotional payoff of the ending. The relationship with Blob feels underdeveloped, leading to a bittersweet ending that lacks impact.
Hitboxes feel too precise, making certain challenges frustrating rather than fun.
Adjust hitboxes to be slightly forgiving and balance level difficulty by playtesting. Design challenges that feel tough but fair, ensuring player mechanics work cohesively.
Despite its flaws, the game has potential and is fun at its core. The mechanics and level design, while needing refinement, provide a unique experience. However, areas like narrative, level engagement, and audio require significant improvements to deliver a more cohesive and enjoyable experience.
If the mechanics and storytelling are polished, this game could attract the sales and recognition it deserves. It’s a hidden gem that needs just a bit more shine to truly stand out.
