I understand this game was made on a short challenege. But the creator really shot themsleves in the foot playing it so "straight". What made the orginal stick out to me besides its really effective story was how it took the simple concept it had and litterally played with it in fun ways.

this game advertises itself as a sequel to the dev's first game called "press any button". however, this is only misinformation to get more sales - this game has barely anything to do with the first game, it sure does not feel like a sequel at all, it loses everything the original has done well. it has barely any story at all, the main character despite being the same in both games could be literally anything else and this game would still work the same as it does. it is also janky, badly designed and extremely rng heavy. might be the worst game i have ever played

I can see why people hate it. Personally i find insta-killing traps the most frustrating and not fun. Other than that, for a 30-day project as a single dev that was OK.

The games description is spot on, the controls are awkward as hell. Sadly they are so awkward that I didn't feel like trying to master them at all. Especially since the game offers nothing besides gameplay that seems worth experiencing.

SINCERE SUGGESTION: IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A LINEAR, EMOTIONAL, CUTE PIECE LIKE "PRESS ANY BUTTON", AND DON'T LIKE GRINDING ONE LEVEL FOR 2 HOURS FOR A SINGLE TIME OF PERFECTION ONLY TO MAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL LIKE CELESTE, THIS GAME IS PROBABLY NOT FOR YOU TL;DR: THIS IS A HARDCORE GAME, IF YOU COME HERE FOR AN EXPERIENCE LIKE "PRESS ANY BUTTON", THINK TWICE https://store.steampowered.com/app/1448030/Press_Any_Button/ I only made it to zone 3 when writing this comment, so my opinions are all based on my experience in the first two zones. Overall the experience is pretty fun for a game i'd expect at this price. The first 30 minutes was all about getting used to the dizzying ice physics control, but after that the controls are pretty neat. Spent 2 hrs from start to finishing zone 2 level 1, spent 2hrs grinding zone 2 level 2, and took 1.5 hrs to finish zone 2. (The difficulty spike at level 2 is quite unexpected, but not much of a big issue for me.) What I love in this game is how much emphasis is on learning, strategical thinking, self-improving and grinding, whether during the time when I'm getting used to the controls or calculating and experimenting ways to run those laps without running out of fuel or crashing into walls. The emotional gain after finishing a level is super satisfying. However, there are many issues in this game I find frustrating to deal with. 1. The obstacles you get are completely random (except for some special cases), which can lead to meaningless grinding. In some levels getting picked a
missile
is an instant dead run. Or
power up
. Or
Falling spikes
. Or
hunters
. I get that some of these are designed to have a lower chance to be picked, but they can ruin a perfect run in a frustrating way. It's just unfair. If a
hedgehog+mine+spikes+fuel down
is much easier than a
power up+falling spikes+missile+hunters
, I have to restart 50% of my run just to avoid obstacles I would fail dodging 95% of the times, and not even because of my own fault! In short, the obstacles are too unbalanced for me and many pointless restarting is needed, resulting in unpleasant experiences. 2. The game is glitchy. The most common glitch is turning your plane when between two walls. This creates a terrible noise and stucks your plane until you spin it back to a correct position, which can be annoying sometimes but at least it usually doesn't damage the plane with every collision, except when it's horizontal, where you're killed instantly. The background music with the "once again" sample is ended abruptly. And no sound options. Overall, I still love this game quite a lot, it gave me some unique experiences, but I have to admit it has quite a few issues. Hope the game can be improved in the following updates! Some advices on how to beat some levels: zone 2 level 2:
use refuels in this order: start, lap 1, top right refuel, lap 2, bottom left refuel, lap 3, top left refuel, lap 4, bottom right refuel, finish. Another tip: only the bottom right vertical gap is worth using, avoid using all other gaps at all costs unless you have a 90%+ chance of success
zone 2 level 4:
use refuels in this order: start, lap 1, middle right refuel, lap 2, bottom left refuel, and 2 remaining ones for 2 laps, use whichever one has no obstacles first.
I have to be honest, it's really hard to suggest this game to anyone and it's a textbook example of why you shouldn't try to sell your XX days challenges, no matter the price. While I completed it, sometimes enjoying its hardcore-ish difficulty, and I find the concept behind it kind of interesting, it simply falls short in too many aspects to be actually worth any amount of money. From a technical standpoint there are several issues: The worst one is that the engine lacks proper collisions detection and avoid hitting walls is a core gameplay mechanic which is really an unfortunate combo. Even at low speed the damage taken from colliding into a wall is kinda random and it's super easy to get stuck, especially into corners. At some point, add the limited fuel you will have to waste trying to free yourself (when possible at all) to this and you'll get the recipe for tons of unfair deaths. There's no proper balancing and some obstacles and combinations are simply too easy or too hard compared to others: the wrong random one at the last lap can waste an entire run leaving the player no chances other than to restart or to look at their scripted death. While the right one, combined with a ton of luck and a bit of skills, can make most maps feel super-easy. And, well, luck shouldn't play such a huge role in a supposedly challenging game. Viewport scaling is glitchy and, if you have an ultra-wide monitor and you decide to play fullscreen, you'll notice artifacts both on visuals and texts pretty much everywhere. This doesn't look good on a commercial project and makes it look like that random incomplete game you tried to code on a super outdated engine when you were 15, only without the feels attached to it. There are also other bugs, as an example with missiles and falling spikes but those can probably be easily fixed and don't really affect the gameplay that much so let's move on. From a less technical point of view: A-Eye sticks out like a sore thumb in this game and goes from having no personality at all for about 90% of the time to basically behaving like a passive-aggressive drama queen at the end. Generally speaking there's no real reason to actually waste your time and read the dialogues which is, again, really unfortunate. Despite all of this, the game isn't a total failure and with some finishing touches it still has potential as a standalone project. Sure, it's not a sequel and it shouldn't be marketed as one but what I really hope is for it to be just a step in the wrong direction in an otherwise good walk.

As a game made by one person in 30 days, it is an admirable effort. But as a sequel to Press Any Button, it's honestly a bit disappointing. The main draw of the game for me was experiencing more of A-Eye's story, and A-Eye is a compelling character. But A-Eye only chimes in with narration when a level is cleared, and the levels themselves are long, difficult, and time-consuming. The controls are very frustrating, and the sound design is not the best. Also, the game has no form of volume control. I guess it's hard to compare this game with Press Any Button, its direct predecessor. They are two very different games. But I still think Press Any Button is the superior game overall.

Attempted play here: https://youtu.be/LPnMxjyeh3A I was a huge fan of the original played it right when it came out bought the art book and absolutely loved it. This game sorry if you like it I'm just biased about difficult games that don't control well or seem fair. I absolutely hate it. This is the type of game even though I immensely enjoyed the original makes me not want to buy another game from this creator. This frustrated me and offered zero enjoyment and honestly if it wasn't $3.59 I would refund it. I thought about it, but at least the 3.59 can be an additional donation for the masterpiece that was the first game. This is painful. I'm also very aware the creator said he did it on purpose that does not make the game any better or any less of a disappointment.
