I was so looking forward to this game, thinking it was the new Pokemon, a combination of Zelda and Pokemon, but how disappointed I was in the game. You fight together with your monster that you caught, and you catch monsters by petting them, which is a bit childish in my opinion. There are a total of 3 types in the game. It sounds simple. Overall, your first journey sends you to another city where you have no idea where you need to go, and the map doesn't show you where you are on the map at all. And all of this, you have to fight together with your monster against tons of enemies. Which creates a mess and you have no idea where you are at all. And I haven't even talked about the fact that you can only save in specific places and you can only change your monsters in specific places, and until you change the monster, the game doesn't let you put what you want. It has a system of points that you have to have up to a certain number of points, which means you take 1 or 2 monsters with you. In the end, if you're looking for the next Pokemon game, this isn't it.

I'm still early in the game, but I'm enjoying it. Using the garden to improve your creature stats by planting seeds around creature tiles is possibly the only time I've been pleased to plan out a garden within a game, and it's interesting seeing that different weapons seem to have different effectiveness on different enemies. I'm looking forward to engage with the creature system more, as using the in-game encyclopedia to both detail creature stats as well as grant abilities for completing "requests" related to them is a great concept that goes beyond "catch x monsters for flavor text". Combat is interesting in the early game, since it's a lot of dodging between attacks to get in a flurry of blows while your creature lines up a good shot. I expect the combat will evolve as the creatures grow stronger, but hopefully I'll still be able to stun them with boomerangs for my creatures to take them out. The game's dialogue has been charming, and so far the story makes sure to flesh out world-building well along the way. The visuals are very cute so far, and the soundtrack is really good for an indie game. Also, bonus points for Oatis calling me a "naanbeliever" of the Divine Sandwich. PS - for those wondering how to change the name from Blank (which amuses me as the default name), you can do so from file select off the title screen.
