This game started off pretty good. However, I lost interest because I found the game to be a tedious dungeon crawler with puzzles in every room, magic spells, flipping levers, turning valves and it all takes place in confusing mazes of dark underground hallways that all look the same. I also did not enjoy all the switching back and forth from the special vision that lets you see hidden objects in order to progress. Another thing I did not like was constantly being attacked immediately after making my way through hallways where I was being shot at with magic projectiles. Save points are also far away, so I ended up repeating the same lengthy sections over and over again. It was also really frustrating playing with the Valve Index because I kept constantly grabbing the wand when I did not intend to. This game is also really short with just a few areas to explore. I did however enjoy the hint system with the bird. That was really creative. I can see playing this game maybe once, but no more than that. Overall, I ended up not really enjoying my time spent with this game and moved on to other games.

Legit fun game, puzzles are pretty solid once you figure them out you feel silly for not realizing it. That being said has minor issues but worth it imo.

Great game with an old school feeling. You can clearly see the attention to details de devs had making this game. this game has : good gameplay good level design diverse enemies and situations the kind of puzzles you'd expect from a game like this a bit of climbing Unlockables for the appearance of your wand/shield/raven 3+1 difficulty mode : easy/medium/hard + ironman (in which dying means restarting the game) It took me 10 hours to finish it but I take my time in VR games, you can probably finish it in 6 to 8 hours. Goofy spiders mode for the arachnophobiacs /╲/\╭( ͡° ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ͡°)╮/\╱\ raven view to see traps, hidden stuff, ... just two things i didn't enjoy : It took me 1 hour to find that tiny grey object on that grey rock, the puzzle was solved, i knew something was somewhere ... just slightly squeezing (valve index) put your wand/shield back in your pocket. Not the funniest way to die. Overall I loved the game, exactly what I was looking for, a game that's not ultra ambitious but does very well what it does, waiting for the next :)

I played the game for almost 3 hours, everything looked generic graphically (think quest game graphics), the puzzles were boring, and the enemies were uninspiring. The game consists of endless boring tunnels that all look the same.

Everything that made Shadowgate an outstanding setting was squeezed out and we were left with nothing but generic fantasy world. The puzzles were uninspiring, dying was just going back a bit and listening to a raven attempt to be sarcastic, and constantly being thrown into "combat" immediately after solving a deadly puzzle (or even in the middle of one) becomes far more tiresome than it is rewarding. If you want just another short fantasy adventure shooter go for it. If you want Shadowgate however then go play any of the others.

i would rate this game a 7 out of 10. Completed in 10 hrs, A sometimes frustrating but overall good experience. Update. Have to bump it up to an 8 out of 10 since I liked it enough to play twice. And I was much better the second time around

Dungeons, puzzles, monsters and magic. And more puzzles. And a sarcastic raven. Nice visuals and atmosphere. Dungeon crawlers are great fun in VR.

The game looks, sounds and feels like a high quality production. Top notch voice acting, convincing graphics and a really awesome magic wand will make you feel like you're actually in the dungeons. I have no prior experience with the old Shadowgate games, and to be honest, I've never been a real fantasy/RPG/D&D player. Nevertheless, I like this game a lot and I can't understand why it didn't get much more attention here on Steam. Excellent performance too on my mid-range gaming laptop, and a whole range of options to set the game just the way you like it -you can even change the creepy spiders to "silly spiders" to make the game more arachnophobe-friendly. My wife and daughter were grateful for that. Definitely recommended, just don't expect a "real" RPG/D&D game.

Infuriating. The game has a habit of throwing enemies at you immediately after navigating death traps (or in some cases during death trap navigation). And with your only save being few & far between checkpoints it makes for a miserable experience. I love the original Shadowgate and the 2014 reimagining, but I can't bring myself to play any more of this.

I am not familiar with the Shadowgate universe at all so I cannot judge how good or bad this game blends in to the franchise. I'm just a heavy VR player and enjoyed the game a lot (for the most parts). I had a few frustrating encounters though where it was a bit unclear what to do or it felt overall a bit unfair, like save points where you get attacked immediately or being attacked while solving a puzzle in a short amount of time. I think with a bit less of those passages I would have needed 2 hours less at least - but maybe it was just me being too stupid. So I needed round about 8 hours for this game that would have been with a slower playstyle be solved in like 5-6. Using the teleport on top though the player has decided for locomotion is a bit of an unusual choice. Usually you can either use locomotion or teleport as a choice of movement, so I was not prepared at the beginning that "teleporting" is needed as a "riddle solver". It's an awkward game design decision to rely on teleport to progress, if a player thinks "no, locomotion is my choice of movement". Maybe that could have been announced that some riddles DEPEND on teleport. But all in all I really enjoyed the game, had no bugs and it was well done and I am looking forward to buy and play the next Shadowgate VR game! (Played on Valve Index with Index controllers and a RTX 3080)
