A small but truly atmospheric game with a lot of potential. The mood, lighting, and sound effects weave together to craft a haunting tapestry that is best experienced in the dark. Hearing the War-of-the-Worlds-esque horns that bellow from the mothership blocking the sky above your farmhouse is one of my favorite details, as it blurs the line between cool and creepy. Beyond War of the Worlds, I think it's also clear that the game takes inspiration from the movie Signs. The game does a great job of capturing how the charming serenity of the countryside slips away when the suns goes down, as trees and vegetation morphs into towering shadows and blackness that can swallow you whole. The feeling of isolation alone is incredibly ominous, and again, the sound effects really sell it: the rustle of leaves as you wade through cornstalks, branches breaking under foot, wind howling. Now factor in that the natural landscape is littered with alien creatures hell bent on hunting you down... There's two kinds of extraterrestrials: ferocious humanoids with a horrifying penchant for crawling on all fours (best to avoid tall grass in this situation because they can easily sneak up on you) and the hulking monsters that linger around points of interest. They force you to constantly choose between fight or flight. Having to make those split-second decisions is nerve-wracking and constantly at play. All in all, I enjoyed playing this, and I'm really looking forward to following both the production of this game and the studio itself. Many games by small developers show promise but don't deliver; this is not of those games. Abduction is bite-sized horror that's worth experiencing for yourself.
