This is an extremely lightweight game with minimalist mechanics. Pros: + Extraordinarily lightweight + Pretty cheap price that reflects the game's value (imo) + Charming visuals + Engaging mechanics and fun gameplay + Complete absence of bugs Cons: - Rather repetitive gameplay loop - Very vague and tedious end goal for virtually no reward for game completion - Exponential difficulty curve the longer you survive (enemies soft-cap base building '-') - The game feels like it's having an identity crisis between a roguelite and a base builder I really do enjoy playing this game and therefore recommend it, but I want you to know what you're getting into. Nothing is wrong with the code, the gameplay, or the visuals. The problem for me lies in the very concept of the game. The Wratch's Den tried to blend roguelite elements with base building, and the result was unfortunately not very fun in the end. The point of building anything at all is so that it lasts (or until you can at least sell it, in the case of real estate agencies). This conflicts with the game's roguelite traits, as you literally can't make your base last forever, because the invading heroes will just keep on coming and keep getting stronger. The Wratch and his army literally cannot improve fast enough to keep up. From my perspective, it's pointless to put time and effort into building a base (and therefore making it yours ^^) when the only victorious outcome for you, The Wratch, is to find the Gems: or die at the hands of your enemies trying to defend the home that you've literally built from the ground up with your minions. However, the rectifying factor for me is the price. I purchased The Wratch's Den when it was on sale for $0.18; a completely acceptable and fair price for the quality of game that I received. So? Don't expect more than $5 worth of entertainment from a $5 product. However, The Wratch's Den is a good game. Significant time and effort were obviously put into making this game, and I can always respect that. I also respect the devs for pricing their game right. Give the devs a couple cents if it's on sale and the price of a coffee if it isn't. That's the least they deserve.
