The fighting has easy inputs, and at the same time enough mechanical depth that you'll want to actually think about what you're doing: The chess part makes for some very interesting fight set-ups, since you can have another piece join as a fighter assist. Attacking pieces and king pieces seem to always be granted a super/ultimate for fighting. Pawns can be shockingly strong too since they skip fighting altogether (they're the only pieces to abide literal chess rules.) Every other piece is a completely distinct fighting game character.
If it's on sale I'd still recommend this if someone's willing to spend some time on it with you. It seemed like the perfect blend of casual and serious gameplay.
