TypeOut Reviews

This isn't your typical typing test. Unlock Powerups, create a loadout, and battle your way through prompts as fast and accurately as you can to allocate powerups and strategically attack your opponents in an effort to slow them down.

A lot of potential with this game. I enjoy monkeytype, so I was pretty hyped to try this. They did add in the ability to type through errors as it was a feature people were saying it was missing. However, I wished there were more options for practicing and warming up. Tried messing with the settings, but hope there's more updates on it in the future. Also couldn't really find players to play with, but that's no big deal since I assume as the game's player base grows, it won't be an issue. Looking forward to what Novelkeys will bring to the table. While lacking in it's current state, I want it to do well, so I do recommend people to give a look at its early access price if they are remotely interested. PS. Also hoping to see more theme options like Darling. Also some of the achievements are bugged, ended up getting a whole bunch after the tutorial when I shouldn't have

This is a neat little typing gaming. I like the competitive aspect. Makes me want to get better at typing. Even the bots you face against keep you on your toes but are not unfair. The only critique i can give is the when the match is using gibberish as a text source, i would like a wider variety of words. feels to much like the same words come up over and over again. Still a fun little challenge. I also would like to see the novel title theses texts come from as well. I know i saw one from the Wizard of Oz.

First impressions are as follows: - NovelKeys. Enough said. - Unity engine. Solid choice. - UI. Easy to navigate and pleasing to the eye. - Competitive typing. Great idea. - Loadouts/Powers. Chaotic and overwhelming. Is there a way to turn this setting off? All-in-all I think this game is a great idea and I'm personally excited where all it goes. I think it's off to a great start, I'm just eager to more game modes to be introduced (namely something more simple and traditional, but still competitive).

Thought this would be better than Monkeytype but it's not. No multiplayer, settings randomized, annoying powerups, words scramble when you mess up one letter.

Game keeps bugging on me, where I need close and restart the game after each match. Reported this bug through Steam and their official Discord server, not a single response. I like the idea of this game, but at this moment wait until this game gets out of early access. And even if the devs sorted out the bugs, I think they need to make this game Free to Play, since it's a very niche game and you need a lot of a player base to enjoy the online part of this game.

Currently I would say pass on this one, even if you're a big keymash or monkeytype fan. I am a huge fan of monkeytype/keymash/typeracer and this app feels.. I dunno... half baked? Strange handling of typos - You are forced to type out a letter you misstype, instead of just allowing you to mistype a word, unlike every other typing game. Every time you mistype a letter, it speeds up the scroll rate of the text, putting you closer to a "typeout"... but this breaks the flow of the game, imo. Why not (like every other typing game) allow someone to typo a word (strategically even) and give a cumulative penalty for the whole word? The way it is now.. isn't fun. It feels like an interruption. Poor implementation of powerups- There is no way to choose whether you play with power ups on or off. It is randomly chosen for you as a lobby is opened. I'm not explicity against powerups, but in this case it reminds me of attacking in Tetris 99... which is too rng (it appears to randomly select one of your opponents, and throw your activated powerup at them). It will totally change the experience for 1 or 2 players in a match, and have 0 effect on others. What would make more sense is if your activated skills affected everyone in the lobby equally. ZERO Dev feedback- Clearly its a small project by a small team. I like NovelKeys... I've given them $ now and then since I became interested in custom keyboards... but not responding to your one forum post 48 hours after your soft release is a bad look. And it doesn't appear that they're responding to bug reports either... again I get it, we're all busy, but you aren't sifting through thousands of reports here, clearly Player Count- And this ties into the last passing thought which is that there is currently 4 people playing according to SteamDB... down from a peak of 27 (which I'm assuming is your total sales thus far... so why the lack of response?) I gave it another shot this morning... played 4 times, never matchmade with an actual player. BUT WAIT! THERE'S AI! Yes... horrible, horrible, rubberband ai, that will magically edge you out 7/10 times. So YMMV. Maybe you'll like it (heck it costs less than a latte), but it feels pretty bare (even for $5), and doesn't really do anything to justify the cost when stuff like monkeytype and keymash are out there in the world for free. I'll be refunding but I wouldn't be averse to trying it again down the road if it looks like they make some positive changes.

Played for about 15 minutes and I like its concept but I find it on some degree inaccessible (though, this is largely an inconvenience really). Before I get into that, I still would recommend this game. It looks really fun and honestly, great for getting that typing practice in if you've nothing to do for five minutes. It's worth the less than £5 it costs. My main issue is namely with the powers aspect, they became incredibly overwhelming immediately as soon as they come into play. Whilst yeah, you can leave a match before it starts if it has powers enabled and play a game without them, it's the re-doing matches till you get the one you want that is tedious. I think the power ups are cool and an interesting thing, it just doesn't work for me. Another issue I have is the fact the game "yells" at you when you have capslock enabled which again, I found incredibly overwhelming immediately.

pretty fun. only thing that throws me off is the error progression. instead of progressing with an error, you MUST type the letter and backspace doesn't work. this mechanic is completely different than other typing tests, because it means you can get hung up on a letter which takes some getting used to. hopefully in the future you can customize your match settings a bit more. also as a suggestion, it would be nice to customize the hotkeys for launching your powerups. looking forward to seeing the updates in the future!
