Slight jankyness, but the level design is good.

VERY short but enjoyable game. Pros: Nice soundtrack, interesting boss battles, balanced gameplay. Cons: No binding options, clunky controls for both movement and attack. Overall, very simple and doesnt really ruin the gameplay if you are not bothered by the bindings!

Peril by MDE is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. It's short, has a painfully generic fantasy theme, and only uses the "can throw something that can stick into stuff and act as a temporary platform" gimmick that's been done a dozen times by other games all better than this. It looks like most of the game assets are flipped from stock pixel tileset assets, but of course the developer hasn't credited the developer who created those or the developer of the basic Unreal engine platformer code they copy + pasted badly to make this train wreck. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The controls and game handling are notably very floaty and imprecise. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing or polish done. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Peril by MDE is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
Profile Features Limited!
Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.

Fun little game you can plow right through in one sitting. Controls feel a bit janky but it is overall fun and satisfying to complete.

It is a small but like a hidden-gem 2D action with the price. Throw javelins and make platforms, solve puzzles, and beat foes. Various passive powerups, boss battles. Mini-video >> https://twitter.com/hhfcurator/status/1623225497537896448

This is a fun game that combines excellent use of sword play and javelin throwing to traverse. Not complicated at all but I did mention to the developer to implement a little tutorial to tell players which buttons do what. :)

Short n sweet platformer that you can beat in like half an hour. Simple mechanics, cool retro aesthetic, solid soundtrack. This game is worth no more than a dollar imo as there is no additional content, it only has six levels I think, and a simple leveling system. Controls aren't rebindable which is lame, but I adjusted to them (using Z for melee and X for javelin throw). The game provided a decent amount of fun and I like supporting small devs.

Peril by MDE is an action game. The controls are not rebindable and the default control scheme is extremely uncomfortable, with Z and X being used for melee and ranged attacks.
