Loved everything this game had to offer, even things i was unsure about in the beginning (the story) had me in the end. 100% worth it.

An unapologetically queer survival horror game with super unique, snappy combat and a genuinely interesting story with a ton of heart. I have never played a game quite like Sorry We're Closed and I'll be thinking about it for a very long time!

A mechanical and artistic triumph with a strong and distinct voice. At the core it very much is a survival horror game, though a little bit on the easier side, but similar to what the genre was in the PS1/PS2 era it uses the medium to convey a strong narrative through unorthodox means. Cool stuff, can't wait to see A La Mode's next big ideas.

What I thought to be more of a love letter to the survival game genre, soon proved itself to be an unapologetic, straight up survival horror game and builds on top of it. The "Third Eye" mechanic could've easily been a gimmick, but in the hands of these devs felt like second nature to use. Great gem of a game, especially if you enjoy survival horrors!

Love the art style, love the music, love the gameplay, love the characters, love the story. This entire game is very eccentric, but I mean that in the best way possible. Got every single achievement. 10/10 survival horror game.

AMAZING GAME! It's Jojo meets Silent Hill and it's absolutely fabulous and fresh. It's on the short side, but it's totally worth it, as it has a few endings. The visuals are so out there that got me inspired, the music too.
An Interesting Story Of Love & Toxic Relationship
Another game I tried during last October's Steam Next Fest. The combination of avant-garde character designs and the low-poly, dark and slightly rusty background makes a stark contrast, which instantly leaves quite an impression on me. After playing it through, I am more surprised to find out that not only is this game a competent survival horror game, but it also has a nice story to tell with interesting character development and conflicts. While some of the old-school jankiness can knock down some points, the overall experience is great and I definitely recommend Sorry We're Closed.
Thing I Like About Sorry We're Closed:
Story Love, relationship, and beyond.

I am confident to say that story is definitely one of the highlights of this game. The main theme here is love. Everyone, no matter the gender and species, craves love.
Love in this game is often portraited in two contradicting ways: it is something hard to grasp, almost intangible. We see this in The Duchess' plot line. No matter how many "lovers" they collect, they still can't find it. The fruitless result and the longing drive The Duchess mad. Their methods become cruel and desperate. Yet, love is not something you can simply get.
In contrast, love is also everywhere, even in the most unlikely places. We can see love between an ill-mannered punk and a big softie. We can see love between an angel and a devil. We can even see it between two ancient beings. Of course all these lovebirds have their struggles, being their conflicting natures or duties. How their stories end depends on you.
Love springs out other feelings as well. Desire. Obsession. Cravings. The game explores these territories to show you that an unhealthy love can be devastating to one's mind. A desire for wealth blinds one's perception. An obsession for fame and beauty drives one insane. A craving for recognition can easily make one resorting to more unseemly ways.

Things I Like And Dislike About Sorry We're Closed:
1. Level Design Short and compact.
Like
The level designs are great. They may be short but each level is full of secrets and interesting cutscenes.
The game uses the fixed camera angles well, showing you enough to let you know where to go but hiding monsters and secrets outside the screen to create tensions and surprises.
The Third Eye grants you temporary access between the human world and the demon realm. Often empty spaces in one realm may contain items such as key pieces or supplies in the other. This design makes exploration fun and rewarding.
Puzzles overall are good and often encourage you to use The Third Eye more often to solve. Dislike
The only gripe I have about the level design is that some places need more color. Specific levels can be confusing to navigate because of the color scheme between walls and grounds is way too similar.
2. Combat & The Third Eye Ah, the old-school "can't move while aiming".
Like
There isn't much wrong to write the combat itself. It is easy to grasp. The gunplay is decent and all four of the weapons have unique designs and sound effects to help each other stand out.
The game turns into first-person mode when you aim. This helps you deal the with enemies more accurately. You can also aim to see the levels more thoroughly in case you feel like you are missing something.
The Third Eye also grant you a new mechanic. You can open The Third Eye to briefly stun the enemies near you. It exposes their weak spots and those parts are the only things you can shoot within the eye's radius. Shooting all the weak spots kill the enemies instantly, a nice way to save ammo. Dislike
The Third Eye is a nice mechanic, but it trivializes the normal shooting. Basically there is no incentive to kill enemies without using The Third Eye. Other than letting the enemies get uncomfortably close to you, there aren't any downsides of it. I wish there were some sort of trade-off in place to make normal shooting viable.
The upgrades you can trade with the merchant are lacking. I wish these upgrades would go beyond magazine size and damage upgrade, giving specific weapon a secondary function or something.
There is no invincible frame when you are recovering from knock down, which means enemies with faster attack can wail on you when you're down and there is nothing you can do about it.

Things I Dislike About Sorry We're Closed:
Some Complaint

It's rare to say this but the music in this game sounds out-of-place, especially the boss parts.
