Art style is gorgeous. Writing wise it sucks. How the characters express themselves or how they talk just is not believable at all. It's corny and sometimes cringe. They talk expressing their archetypes out loud, like saying "IM THE SWEET GUY" and "IM THE BAD GUY" and they are too obvious with what they mean. Also sometimes paths are blocked by the most ridiculous excuses or things. The art is gorgeous but inconsistent in the sense that some npcs has portraits while others don't have portraits done for them and instead have their 3D model put instead. Many things about this game are "green" but mostly is the writing that is just from unconvincing to corny at worst.

What a great game! Sorry We’re Closed oozes with style and provides plenty of fun challenges without overstaying it’s welcome. It took me about 6 hours to finish, but like any classic horror game there are multiple endings to pursue if you want more. The writing is fun, meaningful, and interesting. I wanted to talk to everyone I saw and learn more about this cool world. The art style and atmosphere are 10/10. If you think this looks like something you want to play – it is!

Unique premise and sharp writing combine with solid survival horror foundations to produce a very engrossing, super stylish game that doesn't outstay its welcome. A game with real heart and nerve, recommended to everyone who's ever loved or tried loving someone.

unfortunately, i really didn't like this one as much as i'd hoped. the coolest part for me is undoubtedly the visual aesthetic, but despite the loud colors, i've found the overall experience to be rather dull. the combat already gets old after the first few enemy encounters and is mostly trivial, leaving the game bereft of all of the tension that defines its survival horror peers. dungeons are sometimes broken up with puzzles, though those are usually pretty mindnumbing. the writing also didn't do much for me. i don't disagree with the game's commentary on love or anything, but it's rarely delivered with any heft whatsoever. it feels like characters often just dispassionately rattle off their positions on the subject. and while the characters do look cool, they generally feel pretty flat and i didn't really end up giving a shit about any of them i stuck with the game until one of the endings, hoping for something cool to happen with the story, but just got kind of a nothingburger. the prospect of getting the other endings doesn't seem very enticing, given i'd have to slog through all of the gameplay again, so i guess that's it. bummer!

The fact that this was done by essentially two people is wild to me. All the art (including 3D models) are done by C Bedford and are stunning, the story is fantastic; the whole thing drips queer style and horror.

I'm very impressed by how much the game manages to make a very fun survival horror combat system with very few mechanical moving parts. The precision-based weakpoint mechanic becomes incentivising to get better at because of limited ammunition, and even if you do get very good at it, the low-range of the sight means that an enemy is right in your face whenever you whiff, so severe punishment to induce panic. It's a good loop, it's fun and keeps a good level of challenge up. I also think it's fun to play with a controller to emulate the classic survival horror feel of being untrained with guns instead of using m+k, but that's just me.

I finally understand the Plight of the average Lesbian An homage to Resident Evil (dead aim) and old horror titles in all the good ways. It takes some many existing ideas and adds to them with the combat with some new ideas. Little more of a write up: https://backloggd.com/u/Rowbut/review/2448233/

I've finished enough routes I think to review the game overall, although I intend to play more of the game and finish all routes. Music: First of all, the song "Dream Eater" alone was almost enough to make me buy the game. I know most trailers show off the best bits, but in this case, it definitely lived up to the excitement felt in every bit of the boss fights. The music throughout is great, and I loved that each boss had their own theme (with lyrics!) If you're not a fan of rap, know that I think the technical skill of the performers transcends genre preference. The overall ambient music is great too, and I love the music that plays in the churchyard. Combat: SWC's combat is styled to be slightly clunky in a retro, Silent Hill way; you cannot run and shoot, you must stand still, and the camera perspective switches between 3rd and 1st, adding to some disorientation. This means there IS quite a bit of an initial learning curve... but once you learn it, it feels *very* good, and extremely satisfying. Normally, this style of gameplay isn't really my cup of tea; but fortunately, in place of difficulty levels, SWC has instead a variety of accessibility features, which run the gamut from a beneficial aiming drift, pure auto-lock aiming, to infinite health recovery. After a good deal of frustration in the first level, I played through the game with the lower end of aiming assist, and felt that it really made the game much more enjoyable for me, while still providing an adequate challenge. Having specific options that I can control as a player feels MUCH better than simply having one "Easy" mode. Aesthetics: The character designs are ON POINT. I cannot get over how hot everyone is in really interesting ways (the Duchess and Chamuel especially). I also greatly enjoyed the fixed camera, and felt that it really added to the anxious atmosphere. I wouldn't say this is a pee-your-pants super scary game, but there is definitely a constant tension, and those sensitive to gore and violence will definitely be disturbed by the demon designs. I personally was made strongly nervous by the grimy, rusty feeling of the Aquarium level, and also by the entirety of the Crypt. Story: The setup of the story is VERY strong, but this is probably where the game struggles a bit. From start to finish, my first run only took about 6-7 hours, so it's not very long, especially when you consider how much of that is spent in combat/exploration. There are quite a few characters who I really wished I'd gotten to see and learn more about, especially Chamuel, Dream Eater, Beloved, and Lucy. At times, it really felt like I was only being given a taste of a full story that I would KILL to read more of. If the developers ever decided to do an expanded edition, or a sequel, I would absolutely pay for more. Out of all the cast, Darrel and Oakley (and Mimi!) probably have the most balanced story arc, as they're generally comedic in tone, so the shortness isn't as distracting. TL;DR Definitely worth the price, absolute recommend, my only warning is that it might leave you wanting MORE!

A real treat of a game! Many games are horny. This game is SEXY. Outstanding music and visuals, above average writing, and pretty good gameplay and design overall! A weird mix of visual novel (there is a LOT of talking, which is good!) with decent horror vibes, and occasionally some Legend of Zelda style puzzles and exploration. Overall a big recommend and a real surprise! Also, <3 you Chamuel
