I'm really enjoying this so far. Definitely criminally underrated. This game is very much aimed at people who like hunting for secrets. (Me)

A very well made mini-metroidvania. The base game is fairly short and simple, but there is a rather extensive amount of post-game content to be enjoyed. The two weapon choices at the start also affect the rest of the game quite noticeably and lead to very different experiences. The difficulty is fairly low and the gameplay is quite simplistic, but the game is still manages to be very engaging. Plenty of secrets and puzzles are hidden around the map too. The aesthetic is also reminiscent of games from the early 2000s, which I greatly enjoy. Overall, a great experience and very much worth the low price.

Twinland is an extremely underrated metroidvania game. It's a wild, secret filled adventure, that doesn't hold your hand, which is honestly how all games should be. When first opening the game, just speaking truthfully, the first 10 minutes initially felt like a bit of a slog, because of how it just completely hits you in the face with its difficulty, some of it might just be down to not knowing what is an enemy projectile etc. Is it a falling leaf or an owl feather. But you eventually get completely used to everything and realize how much love and effort was put into the game and that its not as difficult as I initially thought, it's not easy but it's manageable. There are secrets galore, damn, so many secrets, I was pretty confident I'd find them all, but I have genuinely had a hard time, it seems to me that there's a huge amount I've yet to discover. The visuals do look a little dated, and some of the visual effects aren't doused with some of the more modern polish you see in todays pixel art games. But I think that adds to the charm of the game. There really is just so many secrets by the way, I keep remembering how crazy they are as I think about it. I was lucky enough to get a sneaky alpha playthrough of the game. While playing, something mental happened, and I couldn't recreate it, knowing it was in alpha I thought it must have been a bug, turns out it wasn't and I was just the luckiest person in the world. And it makes me wonder what else is hidden in this game. I think it needs the backing of a community to find them all. There are heaps of other mechanics I think are worth mentioning, but I wonder if they are actually spoilers, so I'll leave it at that. And speaking of secrets, while writing this review, I'm pretty sure I haven't seen one of the areas in a screenshot... Very very good game.

Wasn't enjoying this. The level design just reminds me of some of those less-revered super nintendo games where nothing really clicks in a satisfying way. It seemed competent to a degree, but I don't recommend it.
