If you're anything like me you're probably skeptical at this rating. This is a small and interesting little game with cool artwork and a unique premise. I mean, you get to play an RPG as the evil ruler, the opposition compared to the average fantasy heroes of other games. But the issue is, like the title says: this is just a prologue. And honestly a pretty poor one at that. The core issue is value. This game costs $10.99 but has only 3 party members. One of which has no portrait. The story lasted me 2 hours on the second highest difficulty and felt like it was only just beginning. Then I got to the end and it ended up just being an advertisement for the next Peacemaker game, which I already own. There's barely any enemy variety either. The final boss is quite literally a reskinned regular enemy from earlier in the game. Then there are the issues with the story. I've seen the devs pride this series as "morally grey" and interesting. What that turned out to be in this game is. "Our main characters may be necromancers, cannibals, and murderers... But it's okay because the heroes are worse. Because they're sexist and racist and Christian." You may not believe me, but the game portrays this message with perhaps even less tact than I did. It is not fully explored and the human characters are not allowed any nuance. The only bright light is the classic dialogue, it mimics old-timey speech in a way that won me over. As aside, the music and combat are competent but not overly convincing. I wanted to love this game, and I sympathize with the small team. It's not easy to make games and it's admirable this was released at all. But it just doesn't stack up to the competition.
