Hello Goodboy Reviews

Unfortunately, Hello Goodboy just wasn’t for me. I picked it up because it won an award during the 2022 Wholesome Direct, and with only 62 reviews on Steam since its release in May last year, I was curious to see what it had to offer. The art is undeniably cute with beautiful colors, and at first glance, it seemed like it would be an adorable, heartwarming game. However, the gameplay felt more like a children’s educational game—honestly, it reminded me of something like Dora the Explorer turned into a game. While the story itself is cute, it wasn’t what I was expecting. I love story-driven games like Florence, where the narrative is balanced with interesting, interactive gameplay elements, but Hello Goodboy was missing that spark. Most of the game involved advancing the story by hitting the spacebar, with only a handful of simple puzzles sprinkled in. There are multiple endings, but I didn’t feel motivated to replay it and see them all. I think this could be a lovely game to play with a younger child, but for me, it just didn’t hit the mark.
